Smile Sometimes I take my 8 for granted.

So I thought i posted up a good short story that happend today when i was going back to work from lunch.

I'm approaching this corner to make a right but i see some older middle age guys in front......coming out from a liquor store bought a case of beer it seems like. I'm stopped because well i don't want to run them over.

Well as they are approaching and crossing over to me, one of the guys says hey nice car buddy. I'm like suprised and shocked by that comment (i usually get hmm interesting stare)..........thats not the end of it though......cause as these guys walk towards back my car and to their car, the same guy goes......what kind of car is that? (they haven't walked past my trunk lid yet)....still on the side of my car.....and the other guy mumbles low in his voice.... its a Mazda.......

I just thought that was freaking amazing.........when the guy said, what kind of car is that..... haha!! I dont hear that out loud too often. I dont know whether to thank Mazda for not advertising the car all over the place or to thank them for being so low key with the RX-8. I literally have been taking for granted my 8, cause i see it everyday....so i'm used to it.....but then its these random strangers that make random comments like hey buddy nice car and then goes to their friend.......what kind of car is that??.....that right there reminds me and makes me feel that i'm driving something really special.

God i love this car for being semi--exotic. who would of thought Mazda could create something that would have people amazed and not know that it's a Mazda right off the bat.

Yea that happened to me at a gas station. This car followed me into the station and got gas too. They were talking amongst themselves about what car it was. They had no clue what car it was until they asked and I told them.

I also had a bunch of kids who were waiting to cross the street scream "RX-8!!" as I turned. I'm guessing they recognize it from the X-Men movie

I was going through a fast food drive through the other day. And the kid in the window said " Man, nice car, bet you get alot of girls with it."
I said " I would if I wasn't married." He laughed.

Last week I had a motorcycle pull up beside me on the highway on my way home from work. A chopper with huge forks, huge dude in leathers with a teeny little skull cap on. He looked at me several times, and then started leaning my way. I was like... WTF???

He cupped his ear (which was covered by the straps) and leaned again. I was really confused and kind of freaked out, 120km/h and he's 12 inches from my front fender. He looked at me, surprised after a second, and then he took both hands off the handlebars and made a triangle at me with his thumbs and index fingers.

I nodded yes.
He gave me a thumbs up, blew me a kiss, and accelerated off.

I'm still blown away by that...

I've had that happen a few times.

A few months ago I was at a stop light and a G35 next to me rolled their window down and asked what I was driving. When the light turned green and drove off, I saw they were taking a test drive from the dealer around the corner.

You guys should take your car every once and a while to a school carwash day. There's an elementary school near where I live and I try to be a good Samaritan when I can.

Anyways, I guess the kids get tired of washing mini-vans and Toyotas, I drove in and they started jumping around the car and singing the zoom-zoom song. It was pretty wild, giving out high-fives and such too.

Yea I always have little teenagers with ricers such as eclipses follow me into the gas station before I go to work. They want to start conversation but when they see me in my cop uniform they just drive by and say "nice car sir". I'm like, you too bro. And they look at me and say "yea right"

Oh I went to my friend's cottage last year and people across the lake were over. They heard I got a new car wanted to look at it. They asked how much it cost and initially guessed $100K

haha something similar happened today. Some guy pulled up next to me in a brand new AMG Mercedes... no idea what model (not very good with models of mercedes) well... he pulled up next to me, rolled down his windows and said "sick *** car!" and took off!

well it's obvious the rest of my ride to work was pleasant. I love this car.

Yeah that kinda stuff happens.

Within a week of getting my 8, I got free food from the drive thru girl at McDonald's, and compliments like "Nice Porsche!"

One time I pulled up in a driveway full of cars for a party. I get out and this girl says, "Your car just made me wet." She clings onto me the rest of the night. I mostly tend to think that it's BS that cars get the girl, but I guess every now and then there are gold diggers out there. Not that you have to be rich to own one of these.

Recently a girl at work says, "Even if you weren't all the other things you are, I'd still date you for your car." LOL

Mazda don't advertise the car that much perhaps of the reliability issues with the renesis. but i also do get a lot of compliments and jelous/curious looks. The funniest one was one night i was sitting in the car waiting for my wife outside a store and a guy had his miata sitting next to my 8...as he walk by he said out loua to his girfriend: "Damm! an RX8..i should have gotten one of those instead!" then he realized i was sitting in my 8 smiling...it was classic!.

I remember one time at Burger King after getting my food I heard someone from the window say "wait wait wait!" as I was about to pull away and go home and sink my teeth into my juicey double stacker. It was the manager and I look at her and then she asks "When are you going to take me for a ride in your car?"...I just shrugged and said "I don't know" and then pulled away...

Only if she was hot...if only...

A new family just moved into our neighbourhood and there was a day when I was approaching my home slowly the new neighbour's daughter and her girlie friends stared at my car and the daughter yell "I love your car!!!" followed by giggles. I just gave a friendly neighbourly wave. She smiles and say hello at me everytime now. Maybe she wants a ride....

Oh yes, I was one of the first to own the RX8, and it was never seen. This car could nearly stop traffic when it came out, because no one had ever seeon one. It wore off, but even years later it doesn'tsurprise me that there are some people that haven't seen one. Now of course they are seen all the time around here, so there's really not that reaction anymore, but when I first got it, I felt like the only guy around who had one, and it was a great feeling.

This thread rocks I love reading about others people experiences.

Nice to know the 8 draws that much attention. I guess i'm just used to it because i've researched it for probably close to 2 years before pulling the trigger so its like i know what is looks like from most angles and so forth that i tend to forget its pretty hot. I keep forgetting that not many people are familar or have seen enough 8s to know what it is, what it goes for, etc.

But i guess the more people you encounter that throw some kind of compliment or question out there........reminds me at least......and shakes me up and down like hello you have a really hot and unique car.

Oh yeah almost forgot this one. One day I spent almost allllll day washing my car, and making it look just perfect.

So to treat myself I went over to a mexican food place to get some sopapilla's (sooooo good.) anyway, I'm in the drive-thru and the car infront of me is placing it's order, I look over and there are these three girls sitting at a booth next to the window all with their cell phones out and taking pictures of my car...or me? I'm not sure which...maybe both

Or I'd like to think they were looking at me
