I was staying at a hotel one time, and I went down to my car to grab a few things out of it to bring back to my room, and as I am sitting there, this guy randomly walks up to me and just starts talking to me. At first, I was a little nervous, but he just kept asking me questions about my 8. I told him a little bit about the rotary and what not, and he finally reached a point where he asked me how much they usually cost. I told him the usual MSRP, and he was like wow that is it. Then, he told me he was looking at buying a Jaguar, but now, he might want to take a look at the RX-8. How on earth do you compare the price of any Jaguar to the RX-8?

I was having dinner with a bunch of friends and their parents one night, when we left the restaurant and walking back to our cars, one mum said, wow I didn't know you drove such nice car... very nice... she had no idea it's a Mazda. Most of my friends and their parents drive European cars in Vancouver.

I was like... yup, I do. haha

& I think the RX-8 is better made than most of the Jaguars. I constantly hear stories about how easy Jags break down, or have little problems constant... & where I live, 2~3 year old Jag could go dirt cheap.

Cop pulls me over for doing an illegal u-turn.

I say that it was at an intersection, so I didn't think it'd be crossing a double yellow, but I was sorry.

He says "This is a REALLY nice car."

And gives me a warning.

I love my 8.

Twice today . . .
In the parking garage, on my way out, two young guys turned and watched me drive by. One said "cool car."

While washing my car in the driveway less than 1 hour later, a guy from the end of the street who almost never talks to us stopped while walking his dog and asked what kind of car it is. He thought it was a Toyota.

I have had people motion for me to put the window down just to say what a nice car I have and to ask what it is. Funny thing was, there was a Mazda dealer right across the street with a brand new RX8 out front. I also had a guy in a brand new Bentley stare me down as he passed on the highway.

No such breaks with the law unfortunately. First speeding ticket came three months after owning the car.

Someone thought my car was a "spyder". What is a Mazda spyder? That happened a few months back. I can only imagine what ownership was like for the first, early rx8 adopters.

I used to love going to get fast food cause the people working the drive thru almost always were like "sick *** car" and would be shocked it was a Mazda.

Since I don't have any badges on my 8 people are always asking what kind of car it is.

I have had friends of mine from back east call me on the phone from time to time. "We just saw a car like yours doing over 100 mph down the highway, that car is sick!"

Gas stations and at my apartment people are always telling me how much they like the car. It makes it worth every penny.

Final story. I used to work for a Mazda dealer doing sales for a few months. Our dealership had a private road that was about a 1/2 mile long and our dealership was at the very end. I would take the road at 75+ in 3rd gear so the car was very loud going down the road. One morning I had a husband and wife come in asking to talk to the guy with a "black mazda" which I was the only one.

They told me that they were down at the Nissian dealership and saw me tear down the street and loved the car and how it sounded and wanted to look at one.

spyder usually means a convertible. since that is clearly not the case, whoever you spoke with likely meant this:

Wink

hehe, reading your stories is awesome. As I crack up. Recently this guy at a gas station starts staring at my car, and says, "Looks like a Mini Porsche." I replied, "Really? Cause this car is like, 2x cheaper then the Prosche." He then asked, "What kind of car is it?" I told him it is a Mazda RX-8. Unfourt. he never heard of it. Along with the other 3 billion (exaggerating) ppl. that also never heard of an RX-8.

Most other people just stares at it as I'm driving. Especially in people with BMW's heheheheh.

2 days after I got mine I had a group of neighborhood kids yell "sick car!" and a lady roll down her window and say nice ride buddy (she was like 75 yo). Then a guy down the street w/ a miata quizzed me about it for like 20 mins and another guy walking his dog ask me how much it was...he guessed 60g's. Good times...

When I owned a 2004 Winning Blue, one day I was making a coastal trip. After lunch I was heading home and needed to cross a bridge. 5 mins before this I had noticed this cop on a moptorbike about 5 cars behind me. As it turned out, the bridge was opening to let a boat pass and I was one of the cars fairly close to this. All cars stopped and had to wait about 5 mins. I'm patiently waiting and noticed in the drivers side mirror the cop getting off his bike and walking towards my direction. My heart is beating quicker, trying to remember how spirited had my last few k's been??? so he's close now and I'm playing cool and trying to ignore situation when he stops by my window, pulls of helmet and say "nice cars these hey! my best friend just got a divorce from his wife and used to proceeds to spoil himself and buy a yellow one" after that I could breathe again. I laughed harder than normal trying to regain consiousness. Most positive experience with a cop yet!

It really is quite amazing how many heads turn, how many people of all ages will say "Nice Ride", and how many people will actually ask about the car. Life is good, the car really is a winner. Without a doubt, more comments and looks on this car more than any other I've ever had...........................at least 20x.

Definitely get a lot of daily stares and comments a few times a month. It is nice to talk to people that do not know much about the car or the motor. Spread the love...

Glad to see I'm not the only one who gets random "Nice car" compliments. I got them all the time when I first got it from the neighbors. Now that I just moved into my dorms, almost every time I go out to my car and someone sees me get in they are like "So you're the guy with the nice car!". I just say "Thank you." and am on my way but I'm really thinking "Hell yea that's me ^^."

I used to notice people a lot more than I do now. I would watch to see if people noticed. Especially at red lights but I just don't pay attention any more. Guess it's because I've had it so long now. I do love it when it happens though.

There are only a few of my coworkers who have not commented on my car.

One of the girls at work definitely wants to get horizontal with me, mostly because of the 8 (which would happen except she's admitted she has a boyfriend).

I purchased my car in Richmond, VA and drove it home to Madison, WI. I spent at least 1 1/2 hours talking to people at rest various stops/gas stations.

All of the attention certainly massages my ego, but what I love best is just taking my car out for a spirited drive after work. I Love My Car.
