Sometimes I take my 8 for granted.

This is the first import i have ever owned and it truly is a gem. There are more 8's around now but just do some cosmetic add-ons to make yours extra special, it will draw that much more attention then.

its great when the car gets some love. American designers should really take notice at some very nice Japanese designs (i.e. RX-8, G35 and others). Cars that turn heads are what people want.

I can agree with all of this, I love my car to death but sometimes I just take it for granted. This weekend, however, was a different story! I went to WV for a trip (Sorry for the spam but if anyone wants to see pictures, you can check my photoset here) .
My girlfriend and I are into antiques and other random interesting things so we took a bunch of side trips into little towns off the main highway and I can't begin to tell you how many people's heads turned all the way around on their necks, I was waiting for someone to grab their neck in pain from too much turning

I was out at an Autocross once, and my dad went with me (he co-drove in the morning, but then in the afternoon he admitted his nerves couldn't handle it, so no co-driving in the afternoon). He was sitting over in the shade, by a little vendor that sells hamburgers and hot dogs and drinks and such sometimes, and my dad was chatting with the guy. He was actually hardly chatting about the cars, it was more bs about random stuff, but then I get on the course and I grab the vendor's attention.
He starts asking about the car, and when my dad answers him, the vendor is surprised to hear it's "only" a Mazda. He hears the sound, and asks if I've had some custom exhaust work done, etc, and my dad goes into explaining rotary engines. The guy goes on and on about it, and then kinda looks at my dad funny and asks "How do you know so much about that car?" My dad answers with "Because it's my son's." My dad's never hidden that he's fairly jealous of my car... I think that's my favorite part of my car, I've never truly made my dad jealous before.

hmm this thread is still going? dang. sweet haha.....
I seem to draw more cops attention than anything else i think......
But i get the thats a mazda? a lot. or people at gas stations go behind the trunk and go oh an RX-8, never seen these before.....
It's cool to be unique, somehow the RX-8 comes off as being semi-exotic without the snobbyness in it like some luxury sport coupes or really hot exotics. It's always been a positive remark, not like "who drives an RX-8 to a little league game or (insert some other public venue)"?!....cause after all....its just a mazda.....haha. What i notice is that when ur in an RX-8, the majority of people dont think you're trying too hard to impress, but somehow it draws more of curiosity effect, like what is that? hmm oh really a mazda? they make those? Never seen nothing like that before, whoa the rear doors open too, thats neat.

i stopped at mcdonalds in this small town and had a gang of people hanging around staring at my 8. I did remove all the badges. So i sat down inside just to see how long they would stay out there and to see if anyone actually knew what it was. they didn't.

I'm going to resurrect this thread because I don't think what I have to say really deserves a its own thread & it fits with the general feeling of this one.
On my route home from work, there's an intersection that I can usually time my approach so that I roll up just as the light changes to green, avoiding the need to fully stop.
Last night, I was nearing this intersection and I saw a Pontiac Grand Am stopped ahead in my lane. I decide to change lanes to facilitate a slow roll-up and thru the light as it changes. Somehow, my timing was off - I could plainly see from the cross-traffic lights that I was not going to pull it off (they were just getting a yellow, which are long here in Madison, ~7s or so). I slowly roll to a stop at the light.
Keep in mind that the cross traffic has only just gotten a yellow. The Grand Am driver, out of nowhere GUNS it and lurches ahead 5ft before braking.
I'm pretty sure I uttered aloud, "What the F...?!"
We get a green light, he dumps on the throttle (which has less than impressive results). I resist the urge to play Fast&Furious with this guy, and just accelerate normally, letting him pull ahead. Either he decided he had "killed" me or, far less likely, he decide to drive in a safer manner, and pulled back on his throttle.
I laughed all the way home...because I beat him in the twisties
All jokes aside, I frequently get a similar response at traffic lights. Sometimes I humor them and half-heartedly zoom-zoom until I hit the speed limit. For a slow car, even this is enough to keep pace with most of the civics and escorts that try to race at lights...which makes it all the funnier

Last Friday There was a woman standing by her car having a smoke when I got off work. She said "Nice car." I thanked her and she asked how fast it went. I replied that I did not know but that I "have a buddy" who took one up to 130mph. She Said "I bet it goes 250."

Its funny how some people get the car thats cool and others only dream about it, when really they could have one if the wanted it. Some people couldnt handle the attention I guess. I try to always drive something unique, Check out my bike in the avetar, Half Harley half Chevy, I have an old highley modified 43 ****** jeep as well as a 1970 SS454 Monte carlo. I cant help it, I want the cool thing in life AS YOU ONLY LIVE ONCE. Have Fun!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Nice posts! I can't believe this is still going. I think its funny when people think its almighty and powerful and they think your compensating for something and then they proceed to ask you, how big the engine is and you tell me its a 1.3 and they have this shocking look on their face and i'm like ya haha i'm really compensating big time man lol and then i show them how small my exhaust tips are....i think its amazing how the RX-8 comes off as a unique ***** car but then when you tell them what you're packing, its like what?! thats it?? so its almost like they retract their compensation remark haha
but overall....RX-8 are amazing, had a passenger ask me if my seats were aftermarket (theyre cloth) and then proceeded to say yeah your sunvisors with these holes, you bought these right?? and then the same person went on to say how the rearr center console is aftermarket too, like you change this right and i'm like no it came that way or the fact that our guages change when we turn up or down the dimmer switch.....i love this car cause it seems to suprise a lot of people!

I agree, the dual color dash lights are amazing. I actually use the dimmer at night as the full-brightness white can wear on my eyes. The red is still bright and highly visible but not nearly as irritating to my eyes.

I am always getting compliments on my 8, a lot more than I ever did with my 350z.
And like a lot of these post just the other day I was at my local Citgo getting gas (the 8's favorite place to be) and some kid working next door kept asking me questions about it and said I must be a millionaire to own a car that expensive.
I just laughed put on my armani sunglasses, and drove off into the sunset.

I've found most people think this is a million dollar car, or at leat think it's really cool, but girls...I've never had a girl in my car that did not comment/go on and on about it.
It's definitley unique.

I get asked about the RX8 all the time. Surprisingly, most people don't know what it is. And the question of "How many cylinders does it have?" inevitably comes up.
One time, I was at work and this couple came into the store and asked every single customer if they knew who drove the white car out front belonged to. They eventually found me and asked me loads of questions about it because they were in the market for a sports car, namely a 350Z, and thought my car was "Bitchin".
It's nice to have a car you don't see very often.
