Sound of tearing plastic @ high revs

HI guys

I noticed when I hit above 6000rpm and only above 6000rpm there is this weird sound coming from the front of passenger side, it seems like its comming from behind the glove box.
It sounds like some plastic pieces are being tear apart. The harder I get on the gas the louder it gets. However, the car still drives very well without any problem, at least there isnt any now.
It happens on both cold and warm weather no matter raining or not.
5000miles on it, last oil change was around 2000mile

Does anyone here had experianced the same?
Could it be the sound of burning left over carbon inside the engine?
Any input are appreciate. Thanks

does it sound like marbles in a can? or marbles in a blender?

if it does, thats pre-detonation. you need to be using better gas. 91+. if you do, and it still happens.. uh.. dealership time.

but dont worry yet. im pretty sure there is one other thing that causes a sound behind the glove box and its not terrible. i just forgot what it was.

it also could be cavitation coming from the water pump hitting the heater core, the sound comes from the glove box

check out the mazmart upgraded water pump

Throwing out ideas here, but have you checked the wheel-wells to see if the tire is rubbing on the plastic under there? The same thing happened in my old car, went too fast, the wind would push the plastic and it would come in contact with the tire..

Just my 2 cents! Hope thats what it is!

relativity/perspective is a funny thing.

plastic tearing could sound crinkly. crinkly could sound like MIAC.

Yes, it sounded exactly like marbles in a can/blender, and yes...im useing 91..

I doubt that it will be the wheel-wall cause there isnt any sound when im cruising on HW @80mph.

As for water pump, does 08 have that problem too?
I am planning to visit my dealer sometime next week, hopefully its not something major.

yes, the rx8 water pump is a known weak link at high RPMS

it's nothing to worry about unless you track the car and keep it in that RPM range frequently

seems like the ol' sand in a blender/ leaf in the wind sound.....most believe it to be water cavitation....

ahh... the marbles in a can sound is predetonation and thats not good for the engine. you need to have that checked out at the dealership. keeps going long enough you'll lose an apex seal and the engine.

Is it because of rotary? it sounded a lot louder and more violently than predetonation I have heard on a piston engine....makes me wonder that cant be predetonation.
I already made an appointment with my dealer on Tu. hopefully I can tell you guys the problem after that.

p.s. I'll try it next time to see if there is any difference with a/c on and off
