Arrow South African Rx-8's ????????!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm going to South Africa in a week (End of May) until late June. Curious if there are any RX-8 owners in Cape Town or surrounding areas...it would be great to meet up and take some pics of an 8 anywhere on the Cape Peninsula.

I'll be staying in Sea Point most of the time.

Hope to hear from you

Maybe I could pick up the cd or meet the artists of the Zoom Zoom Zoom song (unfortunately I'm sick of it) but I'd find it for others

here is the thread on the matter:

If someone calls you a moofie, doos (pronounced dooess), pielkop, or poephol (pronounced poophol), kick his ***.

Lock your car as soon as you get in. Keep your windows wound up. At night if the road is clear, don't stop when the traffic lights are red.

Around the busy areas you should be safe. It's nowhere near as bad as Jo'burg but you must be on your guard.

Very important. When you park your car, never leave stuff visible inside the car. Put everything in the trunk (or boot as S.Africans call it).

Be sure to attend a good braai, and try some biltong while you're there.

Have fun, but don't be a DOF about the safety issues (re hotpot's posts).

My sister got hijacked at a traffic light in full daylight.
My cousin's car window got smashed because his kid left a toy mobile phone on the rear seat.
My car window got smashed because there were a few coins lying in the coin tray.
My aunt got followed home and attacked as she was waiting for her electric gate to open. If you are attacked, NEVER try to resist.

The dangers are real. You can never be too careful. But if you follow the basic precautions, you should be safe.

Things to do.

If you have kids, take them to see the penguins at Boulder's beach. When I was living there we could go right onto the beach and sit among the penguins. But because it has become such a tourist attraction now, the beach has been fenced off, and you can't get too close to them.

Take a hike up Table Mountain and take the cable car down.

Drive up signal hill for a sundowner.

Clifton beaches for eyeing pretty girls. There's also a nudist beach next to Clifton if you're into that sort of thing.

Tableview beach if you're into kite surfing. There are also a few good surfing spots around.

S.Africa makes excellent wines. Lunch at one of the many wine estates is a must. I can recommend Boschendal Estate.

Green Point market on Sundays if you're looking for African craft.

Chapman's Peak drive for stunning ocean views, stopping at Hout Bay for one of the best fish and chips in the world.

it is too bad the american economy is going to ****...now the dollar is only 6:1 rand...2 years ago it was 12:1 and the SA economy has not change, only ours has gone down

that is why all my cousings go to the UK for summer break and work...come back and they live like kings :D the Brit pound is so much stronger than the dollar right now it is ridiculous 2:1...and they haven't changed either...just the US going down

thanks for the tips Hotpot, I don't have any kids yet so I'll be doing some more adventurous things :p but don't get me wrong I'm definitely going to enjoy some of the best wine in the world

hello everyone I'm here in Cape Town, SA (Sea Point) :D besides the two RX-8s on the forum from Joberg and another locality....in Cape Town where I am staying my cousins tell me they have seen 3 RX-8s....so probably 5 total in ALL of South Africa the reason being...

RX-8s costs more than a BMW Z4!!!!!!!! It is considered a supercar here but the the average rich South African doesn't buy them since BMW is what u get if you have money or if u want to LOOK like u have money (rich people who are extreme car enthusiasts are the only people who buy the RX-8 here).

To give u a better idea the RX-8 costs approx R480000 (South African Rand), the exchange rate is 6 to 1...in US favor...so it costs the equivalent of $80,000 US dollars to purchase an RX-8 in South Africa!!! (includes import fees). While in the US it would only cost R180,000 for a $30,000 model

BTW It is beautiful here...I'll give some updates...hopefully an RX-8 sighting
:D

I'm staying somewhere down here, I'll post better pics when I have time

Is that the Table Mountain everybody was talking about earlier in the thread? If it is, now I understand what all the hubub is about. Do people base-jump it?

Those are nice shots at that URL, but the one you posted was way more impressive. The bit of land in the forground is the only hint it isn't a shot taken from a plane. It looks like you could easily hang glide to the beach.
