From: Brunei. Do u know where tht is?
I think Mazda offers an optional spare tyre option complete with jack, tools, etc instead of the tyre repair kit... As for the weight, its stickied here:

But it'll eat up all your trunk space.
I deliberately bought the car WITHOUT the fake spare (actually made them take it out) because I wanted the trunk space. I figured it this way: Looking at all the cars I've owned, I've averaged about one time having to use the spare per car (where I generally keep a car about 7 years). So I figure that about one time in my entire ownership, I'll have to call for a tow instead of changing a tire myself. I'm willing to accept that to have the full trunk space.

It all depends on where you live. Statefarm in NH offers towing on your insurance policy for about $6 a year vs. 50+ for AAA. Most car insurance does. Also the 8 has some sort of towing policy anyway. I just call and get reimbursed either way. For me worse case I'd throw a snow tire one for a week till I get a replacement.
If you live in the sticks, get a real spare.

Think of the experience like owning a motorcycle and check your tires for cuts/foreign objects before heading out. How often you carry out this routine is up to you. Can't ever remember seeing a motorcycle with a spare. In the end, know that you're still much safer and capable of regrouping if/when a flat occurs versus your motorcyclist counterparts. Now, go on out and enjoy yourself. Zoom- zoom!

Unless you live somewhere real remote you don't need a full sized spare. In 37 years I've never needed a spare tire, relying on a "spare tire in a can" to get me to the service station for the times I had a small leak. My RX-8 came with the small spare which I removed, and carry only for occasional trips through remote parts of Nevada.

Long trips it's good for the security but a flat on the interstate is dangerous as hell with cars flying by at 80 plus you never know who is going to pull up behind you with the intention of robbery. For long trips I take a spare along with a pistol.

But, you're correct check with your agent. NH unlike NJ doesn't punish people for no $#@%$#@ reason.

I needed a spare this weekend. I got a nail in the sidewall, about an inch off the treads. I ordered a new tire (which came in today) on saturday. On sunday I heard a ping (like a nail coming out of a tire) and was luckily right next to gas station. I bought a plug kit, threw a plug in, and it works fine. If I would not have been right next to a gas station, I would have been pretty bummed not having a spare. Also, I hate all of the damned demo debris in New Orleans.
