Speed Limiter or low compression in a 2005 AT RX8?

A friend of mine who recently bought an imported 2005 AT 8 from Japan was racing it up to 180km/hr when he said it slowed down on its own until around 70-80km/hr before he could accelerate again.

Since I have no idea what are the symptoms of low compression, is it a speed limiter kicking in (does the 8 even have a speed limiter?)

I could be wrong, since I dont know what they limited it to everywhere, but I believe the limit is supposed to be around 120 mph, and that is closer to 111 mph...

Either way, I dont think it should have dropped speed... it should just stop gaining any speed.

I have managed to get mine up to 122MPH, and seemed like that was about the most I was going to get out of it.

The ECU cuts off when you shift into top gear on the 05 and up AT. So that means you can get to wherever the end of 3rd (or 5th depending on year) will take you.

For me that means if I redline each gear, I will be at 130mph at 7500rpm in 3rd.

I have heard that 04's had no ECU cutoff. I have heard that some board members with 04 ATs have gone past 140 (due to no power cut off).

my RX8 japanese import max speed is 187 km/h. is there a way i can have the limiter removed without affecting the car or engine negatively? i heard clackson on top gear say that all japanese cars are all limited to around 185 km/h.

Yes the JDM versions are limited. The COBB accessPORT can remove the speed limiter as well as a bucnh of other goodies. I'm told there are other options out there that remove the limiter but they cost a ton and do a whole ton less than the accessPORT.

Well if you remove that limiter, the AT's can go to about 135-140mph.

Ya we have such tall gears that if you redline third you will be well past 120 so when you shift you have the rest of 4th...
