I don't think VA can charge those fees to out-of-state drivers.

I also remember reading about some kind of voter revolt going on about those fees.

Right - Virginia residents only. It's a "user fee," not a fine.

One town - Front Royal - has declared that, for anyone caught by their police, they will not collect their part of the fee, and they will not drop the dime to DMV for the rest of it.

Gov. Kaine said that these fees are for serious violations, not things like not using your turn signal. None of the dimbulbs in the press noticed that "Improper signal" is one of the high buck items. Kaine and his fellow thieves are open about this being a money-raising scheme. These are the same people who are jacking up tolls on the Dulles Toll Road to finance the subway that will complete the ruination of Tyson's Corner.

130,000+ people have signed the anti-fee petition so far.

In Virginia, a governor cannot succeed himself. That's really annoying, because I would love to vote against Kaine next time. I'll have to settle for voting against everyone else.

Ken

The bottom line in VA is that if you get pulled over for any reason, better look into selling your children or getting a 2nd job. Gotta love how this godforsaken state treats its own people.

Dumb question. If your vehicle is a right side drive is the gas peddal still on the right side? **** I got back from a trip from Japan. Checked out the cars their but failed to noticed this.

In VA it's all backwards, so you clutch using your brake there.

Ha, people in VA welcome to CA prices where everything is overpriced. Friend got a speeding ticket for $495.00 for going 20 over, in a school zone though, what an idiot. Another friend got a ticket for $280 I think it was for going 15 over on the highway.

Ha! I got a drag racing + speeding ticket for $750 here in Mass (almost wet my pants when I was handed the ticket). The drag racing charge was bogus. I went to court, and they dropped the drag racing one. I ended up with just the speeding fine, which was $200. I was "clocked" and "estimated" doing 90 in a 55 mph zone (it was actually more like 80 in a 65 mph zone, but my lawyer wanted to focus on the more serious drag racing one). This was in my '97 Eclipse GS-T and was just 3-4 months ago.

If I didn't get off the drag racing charge, my license would be suspended for 30 days. I'd then need to pay another couple hundred bucks to get the licensed reinstated. Then my insurance premium would go right through the roof for the next 6 years.

First one, $90 (28 over), second one, $210 (25 over).

Both were within a year.

Pfff. Our speeding fines are so high when we give them out they have a small print on the bottom reading "warning multiple digits may cause eye spasm."
