Some of you are a bit hard on the guy.
I'm 38, and I got stopped 3 times in a 18 months in the 8. My last car was a Passat, never got stopped in three years. Same work route, same average speed. Two of those stops really pissed my off...one stopped me 'cause he was "just doing a routine check"...I only ever got harrased like that on my bike. In the other I was in a group of four cars doing 20kmh over...and he flags me over. Said he: "I can't stop you all."
This is one thing I hate about the car.

My Brother is a cop and I have been targeted... [small stupid little town] But he says in a group that is speeding they will pull me over since the car=speeding and the ticket fits perfectly. I hate that! When I am going the speed limit +some, every one is flying by me and I keep thinking if I get pulled over, I am going to be so pissed..when all the others are really-over the top speeding. But ask me if I was speeding, YEP ...but not as much as they were!!! teehee

1. You may be repeating the same mistake in front of the same officer

2. They keep tabs on offenses so they watch for repeaters - Paris Hilton gets tagged for not having her lights on at night and they know in 2 minutes she has a suspended liscense - they can track your past...fast!

3. Your 8 (unless silver) stands out like a sore thumb - people notice - they are less visable if caked with mud - but that is hard on the paint

4. The first time you do the crime, they are a little soft, but if you repeat in what looks like a rich man's car, they take it personal!

5. Sometimes the country needs money and is doing a fund raiser, or its a special holiday watch

6. If you must speed, use a track or find some remote place where you are less apt to attract the wrong attention....Following posted speed +/- 5 also good especially a year or two after a ticket!

Dedication to the 8!
Never have felt so revved! Love it, took me 2 years to find a car I really was likin', [I had an affair with crossfire, but knew it wouldn't last] till I saw the 8 (first time on the net) -- found one, in winter, couple hours away, begged the dealership to take her out of the showroom and let me test-drive, they took her out and some kid, 16 was driving it when I got there (dad bought it for him), nice -- Dad let me drive it anyway -- had to find another one and bought it 1 month later. Owned her 1 year, NEVER regret it, (not the oil, gas or expensive snow tires) many have told me to get rid of her...but they just don't know -- I CAN'T *smooch* she's the Zip in this boring life. GEEZ referring to my car 'her' sounds girl-on-girl ... don't think so! I love my men just as much as my car -- or maybe more

i dont think the type of car you drive matters weather you get ticketed or not....its weather your in gross violation of the speed limit that matters....going with the flow of traffic more often than not will be ignored by the troopers...however, if youre passing people left and right you'll definitely get ticketed...Back in 2000, i had five tickets in one year (got supervision in all of them) in my Jeep wrangler...that thing cant go over 90 and yet i've had more speeding tickets in that car than in the 8....I've had the 8 for two years now and only 1 ticket (sepervision again). I dont mind getting the tickets as long as its justified...Cops are just doing their job....

^ Cars DEFINITELY have an influence on the amount of tickets you get!!

Here however, In the small town I currently live in...My 8 has complete (except for serious infractions) immunity with the police. This is because my mom is a doctor, and in small towns the doctors (and others) are really nice to each other, My mom drives the 8 also, and the cops know the car well.
Also, I was a volunteer firefighter and this gets major points with the locals as well.

If I want to speed I stick to country roads (Some excellent twisty/hilly ones a couple km away)

And the advice of not being the fastest on the road works extremely well.

I got pulled over twice in 3 days in my 8. First time I was going 74 in a 65, I thought it was a 70, you know the whole 5 over thing is safe sometimes. We were heading towards each other and beep beep beep, radar detector, I don't slam on my brakes(thats a no-no) just let off the gas and his lights come on. I then proceed just to coast in neutral until he turns around, having my blinker on the whole time, pulled my radar down and hid it, then turned on my dome lights so he could see inside easily. I pulled off the road enough so there was a car width between me and the road. He tells me to go back to his car ect. Asks me where I'm going ect. I then just start talking casually with him. He had a sirius radio in his car so I started bsing with him about that, he gave me a warning.

Second time, New years day, I was going to go wash my car and then go out with a drive with an FD owner. Well taking some back roads to save some time....beep beep beep. This is the first time I've seen a cop on this road mind you. Pull over, step in some mud tells me to go back to his car...ect... I start talking to him, he tells me nice car. I see him writing me the warning, he put down Silver 2-door, I had to correct him haha...He laughed and we went out separate ways....Exactly 2 months later I run in to the same cop, didn't know at the time though, I coasted through a stop sign in the middle of the country coming home from school, he asked me if he pulled me over before....nope...warning there also lol

The one time I did get a ticket in the 8 was when I was going 86 in a 65, just left a little town where you had to slow down to 35, wanted to show my friend what power it had, or lack there of. It was a little uphill curve, beep beep beep, I know I was speeding excessively so I slammed on my brakes to drop my speed. I then proceeded to see those wonderful blue and red lights in my rearview after he turn out of the median. Took me back his car, said he got me at 76 in a 65, lowered it to 75, much lesser fine, then went our separate ways.....

Now with my prior car, I got pulled over for having my fog lights on, brake lights not working after the cop followed me out of my neighborhood for about 3 miles and speeding about 2 times....I got tickets both times for speeding, and others while stopped, my licensed just expired and so did my insurance the day before...3 tickets in one stop...how nice, pretty cool guy though. I told him he had a pretty go hiding spot, he said he wasn't hiding, I told him I guess behind the dumbster and some bushes wasn't hiding I guess...also got a parking ticket for my tire being on a yellow line next to the handicap spot....not cheap.

That was in 2 different honda civics, a 96 and then a 92. Since I have got my 8 cops just look at me differently, I'm not just some young punk kid, I have my priorities straight or my parents have money and they don't want to mess with me lol....I am only 18 btw, paying for it by myself

So I am taking the exam for a driver improvement course (doing it to reduce my ticket fee) and here is the quote I find!

"DID YOU KNOW?
Three out of four crashes happen within 25 miles of home, at a speed of 45 miles per hour or less.
About 40% of all fatal crashes occur on roads where the posted speed limit is 30 miles per hour or less.
Motor vehicle crashes cost American taxpayers over 230.6 billion dollars every year.1"

40%...Did you see that! 40%

And then people complain about highway speaders...Makes you think a little I think. Anyways I thought it was an interesting note on the exam since everyone is so bent on punishing speeders.

And yes I know I dont have proof that this statement exists since its on the exam. Some of you will believe me and some wont. I can live with that.

Just because the posted limit is 30 mph or less doesn't mean that those cars were only travelling that fast. They were probably speeding which is why they caused an accident on those roads. It's not just highway speeders...it's all speeders... :P

Rems...The first sentence in the quote clearly stated the following...

"Three out of four crashes happen within 25 miles of home, at a speed of 45 miles per hour or less."

Hardly speeding I think anyway...Sure its possible to be above by 15mph but in South Florida if your not at least 10 over your hindering traffic. In fact an officer told me himself that as long as you keep it under 15mph over the limit no officer will stop you for the most part.

So with all this said then WHY are most speed traps on highways? In my 28 years being in Florida I have rarely seen a speed trap on a residential road...Where they SHOULD be. The truth is (as I see it) that the officers are sticking to highways where the ticketing is much more plentiful. Based on the quote above though...It does not help save lives as much as patroling a residential area where more fatalities happen.

Not trying to be a *****...

oh I was talking about the fatal crashes. The 40% that amazes you :-P
Yea I've seen fender benders on parking lots...those don't really concern me (except when my insurance premiums go up from them :P)
My first ever/only ticket was on a 40 km/h zone...and there's a speed trap near my house. I always see cops stationed there cuz it's a pretty good hiding spot.

Yesterday night, I was hitting triple digits.. For about 2-3mins. I start to slow down just because I refuse to waste more gas. After I do, (about 10sec later) some cop pulls behind me. He stays behind me all the way til' we got off the highway. Lets just say I crapped my pants..

lol, another incident happened today. That same road, I decided to stay around speed limit. Well some dude passes me and blinks his lights because of me going to slow, and yeah, I answer back and hit about 90 on a 60 limit.. I get in front of him and he slows down all of a sudden.. Blinks his lights again for some reason.. Then outta the blue, this cop pulls behind me. He stays on me til we got off the highway, (same as the night before). I was saying, damn, they finally got me. But nah.. I'm too good. Haha. I'm j/k. I regret ever posting that.
I posted this in March.. Jesus, I deserved that ticket. I got 3 days ago..
I still hate cops though..
