speedometer brightness

I just realize after 3 months of ownership that the speedometer brightness adjustment will change the color of the speedometer from White to Red. This is so cool.

I never tried to adjust the brightness, but yesterday I was bored waiting for my fiance in the RX8, so I turned the dials and I felt the click right away. The lights on the speedometer changed. The red lights are wonderful becasue it matches the color of the car: VR.

I was very happily surprised yesterday with this discovery.

You should read "the little things" thread at the top of this section if you haven't already. It is very long but worth it. You will probably find out a few other things about your car that you didn't know. Congrats on your new ride. I've got over 30,000 miles and still get exited every time I drive mine.

Slow

But I don't see what the brightness is for...I have it on max all the time, either white or red depending on the time of day, just as most other owners probably.

Just be careful with the "E" button. You know, the one for Eject.

I like to lower the brightness of the instruments (in this car and others I've owned) when I drive in the countryside. There is no outside lighting and if the instrument cluster is bright it can be distracting and probably reduces your night vision.

Ya big dummy!!

It took me 4 months to figure out the rear view mirror adjusted UP and out of the way! Here I was, straining my neck.....trying to look UNDEr the damn thing.....especially at 4 way stops. Then someone says......."Hey, just adjust it UP. There's two ball-in-socket joints on the back of the damn thang. Makes it real easy to adjust it OUT OF TH WAY.

Not so much now cause the sun is up on my way to work, but over the summer I like to drive with my running/parking lights and my foglights on, when the sun is still coming up, so others can see my car...this throws the gauges into all red, and its hard to see as the sun is getting brighter, so I flip it over to WHITE gauges, and I can read them.....

At night on dark roads (especialy on roadtrips on the interstate at night) I like to dim the lights inside ALL the way down, its less distracting.

That trunk button is nearly impossible to find from the driver's seat. You can't see it. You can't even really feel it. It's pretty accessible once you're out of the car... of course, then you can just use your key fob. Not sure what they were thinking with that.

hrmm, i dont have any problems finding it, I think they didnt put it next to the fuel door on the side floor so people wouldnt pop the trunk when getting gas and forget to close it...or vise versa. I see that all the time, people pull up to the pump next to me and pop the fuel door AND the trunk, then drive off.

I can find the button with my finger, easy, I just kinda 'know' where it is under there.

2) I read all 17 (or is it 170?) pages of the 'it's the little things' thread on this forum.
3) I scanned a few months worth of threads in the Issues and Problems forum.

However, even then I'd never heard of the rearview mirror folding up and out of the way. I'll have to try that when my baby gets out of the body shop (#$^&ing deer).
I did the same thing when I got home (read through the manual).

I will say the salesman that instructed me on the car after purchasing did a decent job telling the options and cold start and ...

Ahhhhh I just got done checking my rearview mirror!

Hadn't even thought of moving it closer to the ceiling so as to be able to see under it. It almost touches the ceiling if you want it to and gives a decent view.

I read the manual the first thing when I was home after I picked up the 8. The manual didn't say it changes color. I never really needed to change the brightness, so I never played around with it.

I only turned the dial the other day because I was bored sitting in the 8, but not driving it.

I am familiar with the rearview mirror adjustment because my MR2Spyder has the same two-ball-joint thing. So I adjusted it the first time i drove the 8.
