Question Speedometer is whack showing very high speeds

So I was coming from a one hour drive and needed gas. Filled up tank and when about to get onto the freeway I red lined to 9000rpm. My speedometer started going whack showing that I was going 125mph even though I am probably running only 70mph speed limit with all the other cars.

Stopped car and turned off vehicle for about five minutes and got back started driving and speedometer is still whacked. Going about 30mph and my speedometer is showing I am going 60mph. Jump onto the freeway again and speed up to freeway speed with all the cars and speedometer shows going 120-125mph.

I know this has nothing to do with red lining but is my speed sensor screwed up somehow or maybe a fuse or something? Any suggestion is appreciated it before having to take it to the dealer and get charged an arm and a leg.

Thanks

are you sure your car is not in km?...because there is a button on the top left of the gauge cluster that can change the speedo from km to mph.

well he did say it showed mph so i guess he could be lying/unable to realize the different unit being displayed... or maybe it really is messed up.

Sounds about like the difference between miles and kilometers... Maybe he went to reset his trip odometer after filling up and pressed the wrong thing?

+1 You held down the wrong button when you went to reset the trip after filling up

Ah, I did by accident pressed the other button instead of resetting the trip button the first time. I thought it was just trip A and trip B buttons so didnt think any of it. Thank you guys very much I will try that. Pretty sure it was that because i did press both resets. If it wasn't for you guys, I would of probably took it to the dealer over something as easy as re-pressing the button.

Thanks Guys!!!!

loll this has happened to me twice and second time i came to the forums for advice too, i am almost 100% sure that you accidentally switched it to km instead of mph. hold down the switch above the speedometer.

Not trying to be a party pooper but 132kmh is 82 mph.

Around me thats 3 times the speed limit.
