Sport or not? (I've searched)
Is it possible to tell if a car is a sport or not? What are the differences? Any help is appreciated.
Or alternately, is there a link to somewhere that states the differences between each model and any visual cues that goes along with it?
I know this information is readily available for FC's, but I haven't found anything except for 07's.
Thanks,
Rob
p.s. My car is an 04 6MT (non foglights, nav or leather seats)

I'm sure that someone will correct me if I'm wrong on this, but I'm pretty sure that one of the most obvious visible indicators of an 8's trim package would be whether or not it has a sun roof. I'm pretty sure that the sport package is the only one that doesn't come with one, but I could be wrong.
Beyond that, I'm not too sure...

I have a Sport model. Yes, the Sport version doesn't have a sunroof. But, the base model doesn't ether. The Sport model has TC/DSC that the base doesn't. Look for the button on the left of the steering wheel to turn this function off/on.
Other than the sunroof, there are no external cues to the difference in the models. Most of the difference is in the interior creature comforts.

I've looked @ mazdausa
I've looked there! They don't have any info on a 2004 that I can find.
If they do, please point me in the correct direction instead of posting up some ambiguous website. (would it really take any more time?)
Thanks,
Rob

So if no TC/DSC than not a sport!
So mine is not a sport.... .....BOO!
BTW: Sorry for lashing out and being an A- Hole CarAndDriver: I am just very frustrated over trying to figure out which brake rotors to buy and I couldn't turn up anything searching the forum.

I have an 04 sport. It has DCS and HID self leveling lamps. That is the only difference on the 6 speed cars between base and sport. IMO the sport is best option package for a street use car as its still very light without all the excesses of the other option packages, but the included DSC and HID lights are nice things to have. Im biased though (obviously!).
I believe on the automatics, the sport package may have added the LSD, and the big wheels, tires and brakes along with the dsc and hids. I could be wrong on that though.

"Sport" on the 2004 MTX versions had nothing to do with driving dynamics, it was all headlights and DSC.
My base model 2004 MTX has the 18'' sport suspension and LSD. You only got the real sports bits if your car was an automatic.

Thats what I thought. Was there even a base MT car offered? Mine was listed as a sport but has nothing other than the DSC and HIDs, no moon roof, appearance etc. I thought some of the autocrosser guys had gotten real base MTs which didn't have the DSC or lights.

ding ding ding---we have a winner!

Its nice of mazda to include all the important bits on all versions of the MT. Of course the downside for them is that the best iteration of the car from a performance stand point is the cheapest. I think the LSD and big brakes are options on the Z.

The brakes are all the same till you get the Brembos on the top of the line model.

Nissan's a la carte approach to the Z is really bad. I guess they wanted the car to come in at some cheap base price so they made stuff that should have been standard and made it optional. LSD, Traction and DSC are not standard on the base model and should be. DSC is not standard till the 3rd model up. Furthermore, side airbags and curtain airbags are optional on all levels--ridiculous considering the power and accident rates in this vehicle.

Holy Crap!
Geez Guys, where do you guys get all this info? I am very jealous!
I appreciate the responses!
So to clarify:
My Base model 04 6MT has the larger brakes. <-- that is what I really need to know (I know the car has tokiko dampeners and an LSD).
THanks again,
Rob

I dont know if this has been said yet, but sport models along with the xenons come with the fog lights, base models dont have fogs.
So if you see what looks to appear like stock fog lights on an RX-8 with the 18 inch wheels, then it is most likely sport model.

There are three trim levels in 2007:
Sport
Touring
Grand Touring.
Touring adds the performance package, mirror auto dimming with homelink, a moonroof, BOSE, and the 6 cd.
Grand Touring has the Touring stuff plus leather, faux leather door trim, 8-way power seats, heated seats and mirrors, and Smart key.
Nav can be had at any trim level along with the other options like rotary accent package or front aero dam.

See my above post. All MT cars come with the 18" wheels, LSD, larger brakes and sport suspension.
