Squeaking clutch pedal: Reinforce or weld?

Just noticed this starting at 36K, I know there is a recall but from what I understand the item they install isn't much better, if at all, than the stock part that failed. I know there are welded pedal assemblies and reinforcement brackets, other than the cost difference is there any real difference between them? I'm more tempted by the new assy but if the bracket functions the same and won't squeak I certainly don't mind saving money.

I think most members will tell you to get it welded at a shop. I have seen multiple posts saying they prefer that to the bracket. Rotary fx sells a reinforced assembly which you could install and not have to do anything on your own. It's up to you. I think mazda may only fix it once it breaks but best case IMO would be you get a new pedal from Mazda and then take it to a reputable shop to weld it.

Edit: to your question about what they replace it with I believe it's the same pedal; just a new one.

Same OEM pedal with a different part number. If you are over and out of the warranty period, you can purchase a new one from MAZDA, keep the proof of purchase and mail the reciept to MNAO with the form for a refund. Search the forum for that info using the same words you used in this title. All the questions you have concerning the clutch pedal bracket have been discussed in those threads, so I suggest you spare an hour or two and start reading.

if you're still in warranty i'd let Mazda just replace it for you... welding is a valid option too, both my current cars have welded up pedals, just keep in mind the bill for the welding was $250 and a new pedal is $55ish, so there is a cost difference.

although the receipt from Mazda was boring, and the receipt for the welding has a bunch of cool pictures

Eh, for that price I'll just go with the pre-welded BHR piece and install it myself. Thanks guys.
