Squeaky Brakes!

Squeaky Brakes!
So, I have had my 2004 RX-8 for about 7 months now and absolutely love it! I do however have one complaint - what is with the squeaky brakes???? I asked the service dept to look at them and the guy just chuckled and said "better get used to that". Well, they checked them and they were fine. This is just weird, brakes aren't supposed to do this I don't think. I have read numerous things on the web that talk about this problem with the RX-8s. I am sure this has been discussed in this forum in the past but I don't have the patience to look for the thread, so I started a new one. Has anyone successfully dealt with this?

I'd go back to that guy and slap this in his face

Or just buy new brakes

Thanks Dude
Purchased my 05 3 months ago...squealing is my only complaint (and well outweighed by all of the rest of the beauty and performance). But I do have the original warranty (car only had 7000 miles when I got it)....is the brake correction covered?
Thanks for the bulletin, I will definitely use it!

I have an 04 with stock pads and they used to squeak quite a bit there is like a wierd film almost on the stock pads that cause them to squeak. I took my brakes off and sprayed some brake cleaner and reallly heated them up next time out and they stopped doin it!!! Or change out to different pads that could do the trick too.....the only time mine squeak is when theyare wet but thats with any brake pads pretty much

They just squeak. You can clean them and that will help for a while, but if you live in a place like where I do, they will get loud again. The worst thing though is when you get a rock between the rotor and caliper, that is music to the ears...

Dealer told me th bulletin is only good for under 12k miles or 12 months from purchase. Bummer. However, said he would bill Mazda for the parts and just charge me a couple hours of labor. Hmmmm...

I have had brake squeal problems for most of the 3.5 years I have had my car. I had new front pads put on by the dealer, tried "Disc Brake Quiet", tried periodically bedding the pads (heating them up coming to fast stop repeatedly), and even bought some cheap front pads at Autozone. Nothing has kept the problem from coming back eventually. The Autozone pads went the longest without squeal (~10K), but they didn't provide nearly as good stopping as the OEM pads and were a little scary in the rain. In fact, I have changed back to the OEM front pads primarily for this reason. Maybe I will get 1000 miles before they start to squeal again . Maybe one day when it is time to change rotors, I can stop it for good.

I'm assuming most of yall are having this problem because ur driving is mostly CITY? bc i have a 05' and 56k miles, and im just now getting squeaking noises but thats only after long periods of driving and my drive is mostly HWY

+1. I took my car into the dealer about three times about the squeaky pads within the first few months of owning the car (is an '04, had 48k miles at purchase).
First time they just told me they checked out ok.
Second time they said that rain/moisture was causing it, and it was ok.
Third time they had me take the service manager for a drive to replicate the problem. Then the service manager took me to the parts department and grabbed a new brakepad to have me look at.
The OEM pads have a VERY high metal content when compared to other pads (you could see the metal flakes sparkle). I'm no brake expert, but my understanding is this is part of what makes the pads work so well, and it also just happens to cause a little bit of squeak.
so, in short, everything should be fine.
