SSV, APV Issues

SSV, APV Issues
Hello all, last night while up in the 8k range I had a CEL come on, when I got it checked this morning it was a "Man Intake Valve Stuck Open", I had the code cleared to see if it will come back. Been at work all day so haven't gotten to drive her much. But I am not sure if it is a possible SSV or APV being blown and or stuck, I already checked the VDI and it moves fine. I will have to wait till I'm home to try to manually work the SSV.
So some history on this now, soon as it got down below 40* here I started hearing a sound that I now think was the APV motor whining loudly under the hood since after much searching (yes I did SEARCH) I found that the VDI and SSV are both vacuum controlled. I couldn't figure out where the noise was and it was not dependent on RPM so I wasn't too worried for the functionality of the car. Then this morning when I started the car no whining from the front so I am starting to think the APV died and left the valves open. I will be looking deeper into this.
On both the old 85 GSL-SE and the 90 GTUs my dad and I wired the 5th and 6ths open and we haven't seen any issues. I've also noticed since it's thrown the code that she seems more responsive to the throttle. So I am tempted to just leave them open and get an accessPort and set it so it won't throw a CEL so I can pass inspection next month, esp since if the other valves are working fine I don't think I'll run into any functionality issues. Mind ya'll that the majority of my driving is highway 70+.
Any feed back would be gratefully accepted. I did read about using WD-40 to try and clean some stuff up, but know the nature of the APV I feel that little other then removing the intake would fix this issue and to add insult to injury if the little motor is dead I feel that any simple repair would be a waste of time.

UPDATE: This morning, again no whining from under the hood but the CEL hasn't come back either. So at this point I'm going to have to assume everything has begun working normally again.

if it comes back again, you might want to check the valve itself of course.
but also, it might have something to do with the engine harness. it happened to me last year, its like on and off and on and off (CEL).
dealership (Thx Kevin for finding the root cause) replaced the whole engine harness (which cost 800-900 bux if I buy it online + hours of labor time ...), problem never came back.
