You may have bought a bad used car.

On the starting issue: They always crank slow. Get a new high power battery.

As i'm not under warranty i think uk dealers charge 20% of the cost for recall issue's however it does feel like the car is lagging, i don't know if its me being paranoid but i am sure it is lagging in power, also i think there's a leake in my antifreeze :s
I never understood the 54 plate business in England. Is that the year model or something?

Maxda dealers regardless of where they are should not charge any customer a percentage to pay. That is nonsense.

I am originally from the UK but live in Tampa right now. What problems are you having with it? If it is starting problems, I would recommend getting your ignition coils checked - I replaced mine for $400 installed, and it has somewhat solved my starting issue. Also, 04 models were giving a smaller starter than the newer models. The smaller starter doesnt turn fast enough for this type of sports car, so I would recommend installing the new starter.

Installing new ignition coils with new starter will guarantee to fix your starting issue.

I am waiting for a new engine to be installed in mine after 59,000 miles. I have a low vacuum reading. Good luck with your issues bro, this car really is a sports car and doesnt compare to any other besides its minor problems.

yeah i'm going to the dealer 2mmorrow morning, they sed i wud have to pay 20% of the cost but my engine managment light came on as well, i'm hoping thats related to the ignition coil and starter.

Yeah i'm hoping my car isn't that bad i can't afford any more hick ups with the engine, i used to have a mx-3 the old mazda's great fun i had 2 one after one was written off after sum1 hit my car.

in uk, march of every year 08 comes out and then in september 58, that way you can tell my car is 54 plate so it was bought brand new between sept 04 and march 05 then in march 05 came out, we have it this way to determine how new a car is? right now its 57. but i have a private plate so i hope peopel think mine is brand new hehe

My car was just serviced when i bought the car, fingers crossed nothing goes wrong 2morrow when i go to mazda.

deffinately made the right choice with the rx8 over anything else, proper drivers car, money well spent, tho i'm new to the rotary engine so only trust an approved dealer to touch it!

just got back from my dealers by train! had to leave the car there in the end, went there thinkin it wud be something small but when i got there so many faults were found, such as non changed spark plugs at service, pollent filter, airfilter and the starter motor which wasn't a recall?? i was charged £690 and then found out my fuel pressure readin was low so car wudn't start!! apparentl i need a fuel filter so i jst left the car their.

Feel like i bought a badly looked after car, i don't want to sell it and even if i do sell it i'd make a loss, i knwo in future i'm gna have to change my clutch(£615) and engine mounts (£350) i think the fuel filter is gna set me back £350 more tomorrow or day after when i pick it up :s Any advice on what i could do, maybe write mazda uk to get my starter motor price reimburst?

Cool

I have a KA24DE engine inline 4 with 200K on it, the rest of the car is as much old as well.
After an engine transplant from one 240SX to another the engine had major issues of bogging under throttle, running extremely rich, not starting at times, flooding, battery not charging.

I had to tackle them only by one on a trial and error since I was pratically an idiot.

Running Rich - Vaccume leak because I un-hooked the vaccume hose going back to the intake.

Flooding - From the engine running too rich. Temporary fix by holding down the throttle while I switch the engine off, thus dumping out all oil and gas inside the firing cylinders.

No Ignition at times / Bogging under throttle - I got the starter, the alternator and battery replaced. Turns out it was the ground cable from the battery not having enough contact with just being held to the body by a screw. I sanded off some paint and used washers on the lead cable to give a lot more contact. Also made ground from engine to the body.

Now with NGK plugs my car runs like a champ. Using SeaFoam in the gas also helped clear all the carbon inside the cylinders.

NO. It will not work. It has to read each side of each rotor individually.

yes compression gauge does work....

A regular compression gauge will work but you need to pull out the bypass valve on the gauge so the needle can pulse. you need a friend to crank the motor over while you watch for the 3 even pulses.

that sounds pretty shitty lol, I will take the car in and try to have them do a vacuum check for free claiming the warranty and maybe get a new motor for the hell of it (only if it reads low of coarse)

That would be really funny to get a new motor and after 5k miles it crapps out and i ended up trading in my motor that is not really bad for a lemon motor.

Oh and does anyone else's car seem to surge as it goes through the rpm band? I dont mean a rush of power that evenly builds from 5k, i mean as you hit 5k it feels like it surges then again at like 6.5-7k and then again at like 8?

It's not really the motor design, more like failure due to error in calculating lubrication by the ECU. IF you get another one from Mazada, it'll be a brand new factory rebuilt engine. Just like the ones you get on new cars.

I've been having cold start issues on mine for a long long time now. I finally took it in to the dealer and they said it was a battery drain caused by my midpipe and because I switched all my interior lights to red.

BS. You all should know that dealers make money by over charging for service, which is why Mazada recalls are free of charge.
