Starting the RX-8....

When starting up the RX-8, do you get a slight hesitation before the engine kicks in... (almost like the battery is weak)

I'm not sure it this is normal with a rotary...

i believe this is normal. They do it so the oil injectors can spray the seals before the engine starts. Rx7's do the same thing.

I think that is normal. Mine turns over the same way. It sounds so good when it turns on.
