I just got my windows tinted. When people used to look at the car, I used to get that "people are staring at me" vibe, which I don't particularly like. Now, I know they can't really see me and staring at the car is A-OK. That's partly why I bought it.

I get stared at a lot when I'm driving, but it's usually because I have my *** sticking out of the moon roof.

Compared to other $30K class sports cars, the 8 is definitely rarer. I see far more S2000s and 350Zs, EVOs and WRXs running around. Of those, I think the RX-8 is far the most interesting designwise of the group. The S2000 gets attention b/c its a convertible, the 350Z is nice but rather unassuming in stock trim, and the EVO and WRX can come with airplane wings that can't help but grab stares (good and bad).

I spent 10 years in Stamford and it must be a huge blast to drive an 8 on the Merrit Parkway; I'm jealous.

And yes, it seems to be a different "breed" of person that drives the 8. Not sure what it is. Some may shy away when they find out that they have to add oil; that can sound scary to some.

I'm not an engine head and don't have any particular knowledge of the rotary model. I just think the car is awesome looking, fun to drive, and lots less expensive than most of those yuppie-mobiles.

definitely nice to have an 8 on all the short onramps to the merritt and nice and open roads for driving when you are on.

Eh, attention ftw. It's great slowing down on campus to let girls cross the road, for example. They'll stare as they walk by and/or eye-%&#@ the crap out of me.

Then it's back to zoom zoom.

I have no problem with the attention of kids lol. In fact, like someone said, kids are brutually honest, they will tell you if you have a hot car or not. When i first got my RX-8 and going off to work with my temp tags still on. These kids standing at the bus stop said "Whoa, Cool!! an RX-8" HAHA!! that kind of made my day. haha. I think the fact that this car is rare compare to other cars is why its gettin attention. even grown adults stare at it when they are in the passenger seat and passing me by. Passengers in the backseat of other cars just stare on all the way to see the front of the car. that only tells me that theyre intrigued by the car and i think it means that they might like it. I've never really experienced people doing the follow stare as they pass my car. haha biggest compliment ever!

Luckily for me (I guess), the RX-8 is still pretty uncommon around my neck of the woods. Mustangs, Corvettes, and to a lesser extent GTO's are dime-a-dozen around here. I see maybe one RX-8 per week when driving around town.

When I was in Dallas a month ago, I felt like I was in the middle of an RX-8 convention... Saw three on the freeway going in my direction alone in the last 30mi of my drive, from the NE outskirts of dallas to the DFW apt. area.

They're starting to get more common around the places I go which makes for a bittersweet feeling. I'm happy that people are finally starting to give the car the attention it deserves by buying it but at the same time, I liked the feeling of having a car that wasn't a Mustang or something common.

*shrug*

They're still attention getters, either way.

Maybe if all the drivers of those cars were wearing Fezzes, it wouldn't have been so depressing.

lol, exactly. I can't stand kids up until the age of 14 or so, where they develop people skills and can actually start acting somewhat normal in public.

And the Merritt used to be sweet, but now there are so many cops on it it's hard to get up really quick. But all the narrow roads and twists / turns are still TONS of fun in this car.

the s2000 and 350z feel like a death-trap everytime I sit inside. The EVO and WRX would look silly if you were over 25. Hell, they look kindy goofy at any age!
The 8 is classy and more refined. extremely sexy and rare.

I don't see too many 8s around my area. They used to be so rare I could keep track of how many I saw. Now a days I see one maybe twice a month if that. And everytime I see one I wanna run out and hump the tail pipe. I love the looks of these cars that much. I got the itch so bad I swore to myself I won't sit in the driver's seat of one of these cars until I do the test drive before signing the paperwork.

It's thing kids do now to freak out grownups - nothing special about the car got their attention, they just like to watch you squirm.

I get stared at all the time. I can read there lips, "i like that car," or anything that deals with "car."

I was in the drive-thru at Mcds, and some kid started staring at my car. Guess my car was a little more brighter under the light posts (approx. 10pm) And people are always turning there heads.

There are 7 8's here. Two blacks (one at, other mt) A blue mt, two mt ti's, an at red, and my yellow mt.

But now that i've said that, some lame person is gonna buy a yellow, throw a bra and put those stupid chrome trims on the doors, with black 'viper' racing stripes, and say it has some small piston engine.

Or it could be worse?

you know what really chaps my bum? incandescent yellow lighting. Why can't all parking lots be lit up like car dealerships?
