Yeah, thats why I think Racing Beat came up with their design. To increase the air flow. http://www.racingbeat.com/FRmazda4.htm

the rad is at a 45deg angle. the rad is getting its cooling from the lower part of the nose. bottom feeder if it helps.
buy blocking the top of the grill you increase front downforce and reduce drag.
my guess is if you cut the top of the grill and open it up it will disrupt the flow from the bottom. which means you will add air, but you will dissrupt the air flow to the radiator.
the front end of this car gets very light at ~125mph settles at ~ 135 dont ask me how i know.
just my opinion, i could be wrong.

I saw a red full Mazdaspeed RX-8 the other day, the owner replaced the complete bumper assembly with a japanese one, his MS kit doesn't have the black bar and is instead a full opening and looks so much better!
he did an almost full MS conversion, full kit including the bumper assembly, coilovers, front and rear strut bars, cat back exhaust, flywheel, wheels, and who knows what else! He told me he used to work at a Mazda dealer and got everything for cheap... :envy:
