Exclamation stolen rx-8 found

Well... i went to a house to do a job and saw a red rx-8 automatic deep in the driveway so i just looked at it and said to myself "this is a nice looking car". As i did some more work outside the customer comes out and asks me some work related questions so in the process i brought up the question "is this your car"? He told me no and that its stolen . He then added that the guy that lived next door is getting paid like 100 dollars a month to watch it and make sure no one messes with it. I pretty sure he said it was stolen from new jersey but i truely cant recall with 100% acuracy.
After hearign this i was just like "ohh ok. well its a hot looking car" and then changed the subject. I left thinking bout it and what i should do but the end result was nothign as if i said somehting, the guy would most likely know it was me that said soemthing and could get in serious trouble. Anyways...... A couple of months or so passes and i had another job on the same block so i did my job and as i leave i notice the car is still there. Hasent moved an inch. Now a month again already passes and im at this point in time. Im failry confident he wont remmember he told me that the car was stolen as our conversation about the car only lasted 15 seconds not to mention its been a total of say 5 months since he told me.
Im tempted to tell the police at this point because its a shame that the car is just sitting. Im sure the insurance company already made a payment to the original owner and the car belongs to them and will most likely get sold at an auction with a theft recovery title.
My question is. If i do claim the car stolen and the cops pick it up and it belongs to the insurance company/bank to re-sell..... Will i get first dibs on the purchase? One way or another i should report it but above all...... I need u guys to realize that the main reason for me waiting this long to say anything is because i didnt want the theif to know it was me who squeeled. He could easily contact my company and request me to work in his house and who knows what would happen? What are your thoughts?

You can anonymously report it to the local police. I'd steer clear of trying to buy it cuz then it'll definitely link you to being involved.

Just tell them to run the VIN and see whose it is

Sounds like the original owner may be the reason why it's there. If it was stolen by a legit car thief it would have been stripped and dumped somewhere. Or if it was stolen for someone to use they'd be driving it. The whole thing wreeks of insurance fraud and I bet the neighbor could be linked to the owner of the car.

This is something that I dont understand.

If they really did stole that car, shouldnt they take it apart and sell it back out or something ? I mean the longer they leave it there, the easier for their cover to blown.

Im pretty sure the neighbor has something to do with it. Just report it and arrest both of them.

That definitely has insurance fraud written all over it. Claim the car stolen, get the insurance amount, keep the car anyway. That guy was an idiot for telling you that, so make him pay for it, and do the right thing and report it.

Cars located in a dead beat dirty neighborhood. One that u woudlnt walk through at night and i dont think that neighbors really care less if the car was stolen or not as im fairly certain they have there own problems to worry about.
I dont know if the customer has something to do with it or not but the homeowner kept asking my customer what i was doing back there like every 5 min and assuring him i was just there to work and do my job. Eventualy the customer got fed up and escalated into a loud argument till the homeowner let up but i noticed him watching me all the time there after.
Another thing i neglected to mention was that the key cylinder wasent punched which leads me to believe u guys are correct in stating that this may be insurance fraud (unless theres another way to rig the car to start without the key).

Is this a joke?? WTF?? Why the hell wouldn't you report it?? Apparently I live in a different reality or something where people actually do the right thing.

And if, by some chance, this is actually a serious post, if you're so worried about him getting pissed at you- well, if he was stupid enought to tell YOU it was stolen, and he apparently didn't know you, then DUH he's told other people too.

I think someone needs to calm down and have a smoke. I never said i wouldnt report it but ur not in my shoes and my safety comes first. I have to assume that maybe he didnt say anything to anyone else. Maybe he has no friends and collects unemployment sitting at home? Who knows. I dont know him personally. U may have bigger ***** then i do but im not gonna risk myself or family for a car. Now that enough time has passed then i can actually do something about it but in no way am i going to contact the police after i originally left the job.
I do live in reality but apparently mine differs from urs.

Why would truomega make this his very first post upon signing up at this site?

For all he knows, we could be the ones paying $100 a month for someone to stash the car. In which case he's no more clever than the guy who told him it was stolen.

I'm with RSD. Just call the non-emergency police number and tell them what you heard. Let the cops do the leg work just give them the info like the plate number and possibly the VIN.

not your neighborhood, not your car, not your problem, not your business

for yall you know, it' that guys car and he was just messing with you. i've actually told people I stole me car joking around "how much was that ride?" "free i stole it"

if you are only going to report it so that you can get an 8, go to a mazda dealer and buy one

it's worth saying again: not your neighborhood, not your car, not your problem, not your business. It's not like you saw him beating on his wife or something... move on.

Wait 2 weeks, so they have time to forget your visit - then report it - then don't worry about it until you work there again - if its still there it wasn't stolen, if its gone, find out when the next police auction is ... don't look like you are looking for it, don't mention it, act like it was just an old beat up Honda -

I think you can check out police auction dates on line -
Or, call your own insurance company, talk to them about whether insurance companies offer rewards for stolen cars - you might be able to get them to help you find out who is the insurance company and talk to them direct - but remember th more you ask questions the more you are apt to trip over some bad guys who might notice you....
Or work method indirect - drive by notice plate number - if any - post to Lone Wolf and let him follow up through his channels.... method indirect - how many missing 8s of that color can there be anyway?

Reporting is good because scum of the earth should not have successes with stealing this type of car - it might become popular and encourage more thefts - like they do Mercedes and BMWs - and most 8 owners got theirs the hard way - they worked too hard to allow them to become prizes for punks!

REPORT IT! WTF would you not, enough with p%**y stuff and be a decent person. You are becoming just as at fault as the people holding the car and not reporting it is damn near close to aiding and abetting.

did he say "here's ur sign" after he told you it was stolen? Seriously, if they are smart enough to steal a car with a transponder system in it, then they are smart enough to not tell people it's stolen.
