Stopping Distance Proof

Yes, there is nothing like being the driver and experience the action of your car! You read the numbers, but I am sitting here amazed at how quick my 2004 RX-8 with about 9,000 SM) stopped yesterday. I was getting off the Freeway to merge with a street that has a yield sign. If you have done this, it can very tricky. I look to the left and it was clear and was going to continue, and then I saw a car just stopped in my lane! I reacted with full application of the brake pedal for the first time I have driven an RX-8. The car stopped on a dime as they say and there was no impact, yet I was only a few inches from this car that appeared out of no where! :D The braking performance saved my butt from a potentially major law suit! I will not go into the details about how I know this, but I will say that even though there was no impact, the other driver involved has filed a claim!

Um... What are the claiming, that you stopped so fast the wind broke their car? Also did ABS kick in?

bogus claim

Yes ABS kicked in! The claim is I made contact with their car! There was no contact!
So, I continued to the dealership to bring my car for the recalls that has just been issued and they chase me down, and started yelling at me "HIT AND RUN"! They called the cops. The cop came out and took a look and said he could see no damage, but filled out a information form. The next day the other driver (a woman) called my insurance company and filled a claim. She claims I bumped her! This woman even went to the hospital! My insurance company called me and an adjuster is being assigned to the case.

I did not measure the distance, but I know the RX-8 braking system prevented contact! Sorry, but do not have the numbers to give you.

Sounds like the driver was baiting you from the start. Sudden unnecessary stop hoping to get rear ended and file a whiplash case. Who's her attorney? Probably a well known local personal injury attorney working on contingency.

The brakes on our cars are really good. I really notice the difference when I drive other cars now. The brakes saved me from a couple of accidents where cars/people just popped out in front of me.

So once you stopped, did the driver in front of you take off first? Get out of their car? Anything to indicate they thought you had hit them? I'll think good thoughts for you, it sounds like it's your word against hers and so far the evidence is in your favor (no damage to either car) but this one sounds like a professional con woman so who knows what will happen. :D

You have a good point, but what I think happened was she had stopped to wait on her friend who was following her. She picked a bad place to stop. Also, no brakes lights and signal turn. Location was a exit off a freeway with a curve in it to a busy street with a yield sign. I looked to the left and it was clear and was going to continue and to my shock I realize a car is stopped in my lane!
She has filed the claim and after the report I will decide what to do. I would like to fight it, because may get some money to paint a bumper that had many places where the paint had chipped off! Her car was 1995 compact korean car.

Well she pulled her car off to the side of the road and I know there was no contact, so I continue a couple of blocks to the dealership. She comes pulling in crying, Hit and Run! I am telling her there was no contact and she calls the police!
I look at her car and there is no dent. I see some chipped paint from different places on her rear bumper and then look at my car. There was no marks on it.
It really worked out the best because the police came and looked at the cars and said there was no damage. If things proceed I will be able to call on him as a witness. There is a lesson in here somewheres!

So even if you did "tap" her or the air hit her car, the insurance company is just going to laugh if there isn't any damage. I wonder if she will try to get her bumper painted for free and the terrible whip lash she must've experienced.

id call fraud! fight it to no end if you feel your in the right!

the brakes are indeed amazing, stoping power on/near the top of its class! a truley great braking system....whats even more impressive than the feel/power of these brakes is their fade resistance on a track/repeted hard braking situation!

Thanks! Tomorrow adjuster comes out to take photo of my front end. There is no damage at all except a tiny bit of paint that came off the front end when I was parrallel parking at work. I thought about painting it, but I do not want to make it look brand new. I will admit to the truth about this tiny mark rather than cover it up.

Yes, it my belief that the insurance company will stand by me. Never been on a race track but have seen some videos made in Japan of the car on the track. DCS turned on and then off!
