strange film on headlight lenses

has anyone noticed a discoloration on the upper part of the headlight lens, you can only notice it when the light hits it just right, but it wont come off. it almost looks like soapy residue on the inside of the lens above the headlight projector beam, maybe it is supposed to be there to keep the light from creeping up from the projector has anyone noticed this???? thanks

I have it as well, noticed it for the first time yesterday. I tried and tried to get it to come off but its appears to be stained in the plastic.

If the headlights are similar to those that came on late model Ford Contours and Taurus's (Tauri ?), that would be a UV protectant film that will eventually start to crack or "craze" with age. Try using Meguiar's #17 Clear Plastic Cleaner followed by #10 Clear Plastic Polish initially. Once the material starts to crack, not much short of wet sanding with 1500 then 2000+ grit sandpaper will remove the problem. I hope I'm wrong...

Regards, Art
