Question Sunroof/Moonroof

How important is your sunroof/moonroof to you?

since i'm getting closer to purchasing my car finally, i have to decide what is more important to me, either color or sunroof. the one i want has disappeared, and i dont wanna wait i like the white also, in which i could get a unroof, but blue is my first choice of color...

so could you do wihtout it, or would you sacrifice one for the other, or would you wait it out for the proper color/options to arrive?

just a curiousity thing :D

When I was considernig my car, I had to have a sunroof. Now that I have it, I could do without it. I rarely open it.

If you plan on taking your car to the track don't get the sunroof. Takes up over a inch of headroom / helmet room.

I wouldn't settle for anything less than what I want. But, if your looking to get a great deal for an 05 then you might just have to get force fed.

You only really miss it when:

1. You are in another car that has it.
2. Its a fair weather day and you want to drive with the windows down
3. When its a fair weather night and you want to see the stars w/o getting out of your car.

I've had cars that have it and cars that don't. For me, I love the fresh air and it seems to circulate better with the sun roof open in the RX8 and the windows down. So for me, I would choose moonroof over color.

But you are not me, and you simply need to weigh what's more important to you. If color is your thing, go with color and ditch the sunroof. You won't miss it until you think about it on a sunny, breezy, cool day.

I definately had several options on color. I kept changing my mind.... I've always loved a moonroof so that was a high priority. If it came down to a second or third choice in color to get the moonroof, I think I would choose the roof. If it was a 1st choice color and had everything else, I might skip the roof. The real answer is to wait and look until you find the one you want. Don't jump the gun!

I love my sunroof! I specifically had to have one when I was looking to buy. Of course the fact that I live in Florida helped my decision. I consider sunroofs and convertables more fair weather cars anyway. But as some have already said go with what you feel is best going to suit your needs .

I can look back and say this was stupid, but the sunroof is what made me buy the car over the Z. I liked the two equally, but promised myself the next car I bought would have a sunroof. Ended up being one of the best decisions I've ever made.

I LOVE sunroofs. And I LOVE my 8. But I have to say: the sunroof on the 8 SUCKS. It's small, and it's set very far back in the roof relative to the driver. As a guy with short arms/legs, who has to have the seat fairly far forward, the roof is pretty much *behind* me rather than *over* me. Now, if you're a long-legged tall guy, this may not be a problem for you; sit in a sunroofed one and see what you think.

But I'll say this: even with my disappointment in the roof, I still like it and use it all the time. I like the air, I like seeing the stars, I like the extra light that comes in on a gloomy day, I even like seeing the rain on the roof. And maybe the best thing about it: on a hot summer day, when you come out to the car and it's an OVEN, with an open roof (and open windows), it cools off REALLY quickly; just get the car moving even a little bit.

Me, I'd take the roof over the color if I could live with the color. If I really hated the color, I'd keep trying to get both. Were I you, I'd widen the radius of dealers I was searching.

youre all saying what im thinking. im probably going to go for the roof over color. ive checked out all the dealerships around here, and there are a few options which is nice. and even then, i may go further out to see what else i can get. now, me being 6'1, i dont see a huge problem over headspace, but i could be wrong... i'll have to check that out for sure

thanks for the input (and more is always welcomed) :D

I used to have a moonroof on my old car. I kinda miss it in the RX-8 (like during the sunnier days, driving with windows down), but not all that much. So I'm fine. And I'm sure that when I have some extra-tall person get into my car, they'll appreciate an extra inch or two of headroom.

It really depends on you... I don't miss the moonroof much, but you may just keep kicking yourself every day for not getting it.

For me, color is way more important than the moonroof.

I love tilting the sunroof while im driving. I get slight ventilation and also it looks more aerodynamic. I am short so I have no worries about head space :D

I'm 6 foot and fit in fine with a helmet on track day, the sunroof isn't that bad.

6 foot here with no problems as well......also love it and use it all the time.
But....I agree with the previous post that the size and positioning could be just a bit better.

I also have it and I tell you If I were to buy my car again I'd buy it with it, it is just nice when you are driving slow, windows & Sunroof open.

Really? I'm of a similar stature (also 6'1' with long legs), and the RX-8 with touring package I test drove didn't fit me well. The top/left side of my head was rubbing on the headliner for the whole drive. Do you tend to recline your seat fairly far back? I do tend to keep my seatback relatively upright, which definitely makes a difference...

The headroom bothered me enough that I bought my car w/ the sport package, as opposed to touring.

i know for myself i tend to have my seat back a bit further reclined than most. my parents always adjust the seats after ive been driving any of their cars. although compared tomy friends, im sitting up straight. i guess thats one thing im going to have to look for when i check it out

I had sunroofs in some previous cars and I never used them, I prefer color over the sunroof

Talking

I also had a sunroof and never used it... plus I find the sunroof of the RX-8 looks weird when open. It sticks out of the car at a angle, it doesn't slide into the roof (my previous car was a jetta, sunroof was almost invisible when open). Sunroof you'll use sometimes (who actually looks at the stars while driving lol!) but the color of the car is something u'll always look at.

Blue is nice, but VR is better (faster too lol!)

I wouldn't buy a car without one.

That said this roof is more like a mail slot than a sunroof. Can hardly get my "moon" out of it ... :D
