Surfboards and an 8

Anybody else surf? I just got mine and am wondering how I'm going to go about getting surfboards to the beach, I was thinking on top with ratchet straps through the windows arranged so they don't hit me in the face.

there are bike racks that use the typical 2 beams across the roof. they'd be perfect for mounting a surfboard.

i think yakima makes one for the rx8. here you go.

Ive been wondering about this myself! a long board would be hell to install, a short board would be cool if you have a case for it so sand and crap doesn't get all over. if you surf A LOT it would be reasonable to remove the passenger seats (front and also back top part)

good question indeed!

<---- beginner surfer.

i just use soft racks (straps through window to inside). don't want the looks of permanent racks or leaving the soft rack on it. i also use a board sock(?) so sand and other crap won't get on the car. if you have sunroof, just be sure not to accidentally press the switch for it, haha.

The surf is not great in New York but the skim is... I skim board with a 44 inch board and it fits into my back seats. How long is a surfboard for you?

I have a few but the one I use the most is 6'2 and about 18" wide, I'm not positive on the width though, anybody know the dimensions of the pass-through offhand?

My boards go nowhere near my 8.
Buy a beater, that's what I have........a 94 Isuzu Rodeo just for that purpose..............either that or walk or ride a bike.
If you must................soft racks are the way to go, at least they come of easy, but I still wouldn't do it.

I really don't see why, a little bit of sand on the floor never hurt anyone. With board socks and a soft rack don't see any problems.

Update

A stroke of supposed genius struck me today and I ripped out the back seat only to find a cross beam and a panel blocking the cabin from the trunk. I'm pretty sure if I can take that panel off and the panel the passthrough hooks into a surfboard will slide nicely through the gap.

I'm going to take out both seats and see if I can get the panels off.

Yeah, rip apart your new car just to get a board in there.
