surprise in my cup holders after visit to dealer
Well, had a CEL and dealer ended up replacing the computer and I got my car back on thursday. Well just a few minutes ago I was looking in my cup holders (dont really use them often, just toss change in there). Well, when I look in, I find these:
Well, when I got a chance I turned the car off and tried both... unfortunately neither were set to work I'm guessing I could till set them though. Either way, interesting thing to randomly find in your cup holder.

And from what I've been told, they do have a chip in them that corresponds to your car. Along with my set, they gave me a cheapy looking one (Valay key? I have no idea how you spell that). The cheapy key has no chip in it and supposedly will only allow the car to run for about 20 min.
Course this is what I've been told.

EDIT:
On the topic of those keys, you should probably return them. I imagine those belonged to someone else who was also getting their car serviced.

Simple solution. Call your dealer and ask them about it. It will clear up all question marks. If they are for you they will tell you and you can keep them with a good conscience.

Think of whoever is trying to find them. They are thinking...."Someone keeping them is what's wrong with people nowadays." You can make a difference and they will instead say... "Them giving them back is what's wonderful about people nowadays."
You have the power.

When I bought mine I got 2 of the 'switchblade' keys w/box, and one valet key. The valet key is basically an "oh ****, I locked my keys in the car" type of key. IIRC, it ONLY opens the doors, but b/c it does NOT have the chip it won't start the car.
It's either new keys for you, or they have some kind of "master key" at the dealership? You should definitely try to open someone else's 8 with one!

It seems impossible to lock the keys in any car now-a-days. I've never touched the actual push lock mechanism from the inside, and I've never put the key into the door from the outside. No reason to when you can just hit the button to lock & unlock, making it habit to always have the box.
Even starting the car in the cold it's impossible to accidentally lock the car now b/c habit only allows for locking with the box.
So I'm not sure why I needed a valet key at all.
