Survey question
I'm a new member out here and I love the RX8. I am seriously thinking about purchasing one before May, which is my 30th birthday. Not that I care what some people have to say about the car, because I love it no matter what, but a few friends of mine have said it's a chick car. Even a few of my women friends have said the same thing. What are your thoughts on that, and how many of you owners out there are women, and how many of you are men?

i think theres 5 women on this board. But if you want a mans car buy a ford 350 truck deisel cummins wait tons of women drive that. oh wait what about a ferraris lots of hot rich girls drive that too so hmm. lol im just bustin your *****. This car is hot period.

Your friends are idiots - you need new friends. Start with the Canada regional section of this forum, the Ontario guys have occasional meets!
Seriously, it's like the Miata - a dedicated sports car with incredible handling that wins real races (ie SCCA track and autocross) non-stop, yet it's derided by ignorant people who have no clue what sports cars are really about. They look at the hp and 0-60 numbers and decide what a chick car is? Just the whole assignment of the label "chick car" to ANY vehicle shows that they know nothing about being a true car enthusiast. They certainly don't understand anything about handling and vehicle dynamics.
If you really wanted to drive a "chick car", you'd drive an SUV, because that's what all the soccer moms are driving these days! :D So the standard answer to your moron friends is "yeah, the chicks love it. Hey, by the way, how many women do you get coming up to tell you they love your SUV?"
Regards,
Gordon

I agree with all of you. Screw them, they don't know ****, lol! I love the RX8, and could honestly care less what anyone thinks. Everytime I see that damned car it gives me goosebumps. Where I live, there aren't too many of them around either, so that's another bonus. For me it's either buy the 8 or a new Mustang. Everyone has stangs, 8's are way more rare. The two don't even compare though in my opinion. Also, one other question. The only thing that holds me back is driving it in the winter. I've read a few things about how they handle in the snow. Could any of you give me some first hand experiences on snow driving. I would plan on driving it through the winter, and wonder if I need to buy snow tires. Thanks.

This is the first time I've heard it called a "Chick" car.....the rotary alone should exlude it from being called that.

It is a chick car--if you mean that it attracts chicks. It's definitely a chick magnet, an attention getter, and it's relatively unique design will turn heads where other 'performance' cars would not. I've only ever seen two 8's with female drivers here in Georgia.
Take an RX-8 for a weekend test drive and see how many people will tell you "nice car." You'll come to expect it after a while, and you definitely won't think it's a "chick car," according to your friends' definition.

Like Gordo said, go check out the Canadian forum for any answers to driving in winter.

My RX-8 has gotten tons of admiring comments from male friends.
Of course I'm gay, so some of my male friends may have better taste than some of your male friends! :D
Frankly, your friends sound like a bunch of clique-ish 12 year olds. Do they still make you demonstrate how you check your fingernails?
I suppose if what they think about your car really means more to you then what you think about your car, then you should probably buy something else. We certainly wouldn't want to upset them! :p
Winter = no problem
Snow tires = absolutely essential, the stock tires are DANGEROUS on even the tiniest amount of snow
I'm deadly serious about this one, search and you'll see.

I'm 34 years old and have driven alot of cars just a few-'84 t/a, '87 mustang gt(wrecked it) '87 buick grand national, 93 gmc typhoon, the list goes on forever....This is by far the most rewarding car I have ever owned. It looks good front back and side and is very unique in the world of copy cat cars. Go and get one RIGHT NOW, QUIT WASTING TIME.

Once I had purchased the 8 my wife decided she loved it and it was the car she wanted. That is until she found out the car would need the oil checked frequently, required higher octane fuel, and was basicaly a car that would need attention and not like the Toyota cookie cutter she has now. Not a chick car in this house.

The previous gen Mustang, especially V6 version, now THAT's a chick car. But Rx8, when you have the hi powered version available only in MT, I wouldn't call it a chick car.. 350Z/G35 on the other hand.. well, that's more of a chick car than an Rx8, I see a lot more girls driving it too.

Definitely a "chick car." If you doubt it, check out the attractive rear ends in this thread.

A what?
California-esque, a "girlie-car" perhaps?
Laughable, I am afraid. I didn't even think a Kharman Ghia was a girlie-car.
Personally, I do not care who drives one -- 50/50 would be fine with me. Let's not doubt ourselves over such words. I drive one, and I really like it.
M/58yo. Lots of odd sports cars in my past, and this is a great one.

Chick car my butt. Like someone said earlier, there's like maybe a dozen women on the forum here (that post regularly, anyway) that have an RX-8, out of 15,000 members, and maybe 12,000 owners. So do the math and you tell us if it's a "chick car." Sheesh. Sounds like your friends all drive big pickup trucks with 4' tall tires and lift kits. :D

Tom and Ray (Click and Clack, the Tappet Brothers) have this issue covered.

BTW, given the definitions of "guys' cars," we should all be thankful we're all driving "chick cars."

I'd say it's a "spoiled chick" car in my case - my husband bought me one for Christmas - fully loaded. Told me I could have any car I wanted except maybe a McLaren, but there was NO question, the RX8 is the only choice for me. Even put a Valentine One under the tree for me! I LOVE this car, and I don't care WHO calls me spoiled! - 'cuz Iam!!!!!

So far, the majority of members of this forum and the majority of drivers I have seen have been male. See who's driving the new VW bugs--that's a chick car, and not one that will get you chicks.

my friend told me it was a chick car, then admitted he was jealous, how could he not be, drive a 2004 V6 mustang -bottom of line. whats ironic about that is that i would bet more women drive mustangs than men.
maybe people get that idea b/c its a short car, but that only improves handling and exploits the rotary engine's extremely small size.
