Sylvania Silver Stars

I've got an '04 Winning Blue base w/CD changer and the only option I really wanted was HID's. So, now I am thinking about Super Stars and was wondering if anyone runs these on their base models. If so is it worth the $35 dollars or so.Thanks guys

I had them on my old Acura CL-S. and they were pretty nice. I put them into the high-beam sockets so they better matched my HID lowbeams.

Very worth it. They last longer than most people say. They are also very bright. I have mine for low and high beams. I have it in my other car without projectors and people constantly flash me thinking I have high beams on. No, they're just silverstars.

I just bought a set on eBay. They look really good on my friend's SpecV. I think they are worth the money. I just hope they last longer than1 yr (accoring to Sylvania's website)

I put them in my Miata- they were a huge improvement, but still nowhere near HID brightness.

I installed a set in a 03 Mazda6 over 2 years ago and they are still going strong.

Just make sure you don't touch them with your bare fingers.

I have them on my '02 Nissan Frontier, and they're MUCH brighter than the stock lights were. They were well worth the money (I believe I paid $45 or so for the set, they were having a "buy one get the second for half price" sale).

Are they legal as high beams in New Jersey. Probably not. There isn't much that is legal in NJ.

Medicine Man, If you do not mind spending the money, go to this website:

These guys sell HID kits for non HID cars. I traded in an 01 Merc Cougar with the 9006 style HID kit that I purchased from this website.
The light from this kit was unbelieveable. As a matter of fact, I am trying right now to see if the company has replacement bulbs for my current RX-8 Xenon lights. The lights on the RX-8 are not nearly as bright or as blue as the HID kit I purchased.

I did some research and found the RX-8 bulbs are rated at 4600 ~ 4700K, my HID kit was rated at 6500K These guys have lights that go up to 12000k.
The price for the kits are around $400 - $500 dollars. In my opinion they are worth the money.

Thanks "ninco". Do HID's generate more heat too? Don't want to melt anything but it should be ok since HID's are available as Mazda Option in the pkg's. I had a Passat and that was a concern when HID conversion kits were coming out for that car. $400-500 is a nice price too Thanks again

Those Sylvanias are FAR from the "color temp" they claim.

I KNOW.....I installed one and turned my lights on...and walla......looked the same. I was HUGELY disappointed.

Then I got the 5700k "XD5" ones off EBAy. and they ARE PRISTINE......they look EXACTLY like the HID's......I'd say they are 30-40 % LESS bright though (a buddy has an Infinity fx35 with HID's and we had both our lights on a brick wall in front of us for comparison).....but definitely still enough.

So....take it from one who tried and did a SBS comparison.....Don't waste your $$ on the Silver Stars. Sorry Sylvania.....

One thing to consider though is that I have had these bulbs in for 1 month.....so as far as "reliabiliy" or "length" of use.....I cannot comment on.

I also put the XD5's in my fogs......GORGEOUS.

scariest thing is they are REAL CHEAP!!!!

SYLVANIA SilverStar's are not that great. What you want is OSRAM SilverStars. The Sylvania Bulbs are actually marketed as Osram "Extended Life" or "Cool Blue" or some crap the rest of the world over, the Osram Silverstars are the real deal. They both last longer than the Sylvania bulbs, are brighter, and have a whiter color temperature. As someone who has tried the Sylvania bulbs (they're ok, but grossly overpriced), eBay "HID" bulbs (burn out within 6-9 months, but look cool as hell), and the Osrams, get the Osrams!

I was using PIAA Super White Platinums in 3 cars and thought they were the best thing ever, and priced around $70-80 a set. I tried the Sylvania SilverStars and found them to be brighter, whiter, and look better to boot. For $35-40 a set, I can put them in my low AND high beams (or in the case of the RX-8, just the highs) for the same cost as one set of the PIAAs.

I oringinally put them in the high beams of my 325is, as I was using that car in SCCA Winter Rallys and wanted to get some extra lighting range. It was a very noticable improvement over stock!! Whiter and Brighter. I'm a convert.

Don't get any blue tinted bulbs. They're dim and look stupid, like you're pretending to have HIDs, when you don't.

What is the correct item number for the silver stars? I have a base and would like some better lighting. I went to buy some, but didnt know which ones to get. The place i went had a item catalog, but it only went to 03', so they simply said they dont carry it. I believe the number is in the 9XXX series...
