^ I've known of the long endurance capability of synthetics since Mobil1 first came on the scene many years ago, yet have never gone beyond 6k miles. We probably do change our oil too often, but then I feel like it's the one thing I can do to better maintain the engine's 'health.'

Consider the value of synthetic oil in an oil system where approx 3 quarts of old oil is retained in every oil change.

A Toyota dealership tried the same crap with my wife when she had her car serviced a few years ago. I called Toyota and complained and gave them the service managers name. We got our way. I've gone over dealerships heads so many times that I'm sarting to give them athlete's scalp. If this doesn't work for you, you aren't doing it right.

Here's a better idea. Everyone who has oil receipts scan them and post them here. We'll create a library. Whenever anyone needs them they can just print them. Problem solved.
Fred, I wanted to take the time to thank you, once again, on behalf of everyone.

You're an indispensable part of what makes this place so fantastic, and you're a genuine walking database of good and solid info on our cars.

Cheers.

5W 20 Non-Syn every 3000 miles or less if the oil smells funky. My dealer made it clear that synthetic will void the engine warranty if evident and you have an engine failure.

I have the 70 as my avatar cause I champion the Speed Source Team. I wish I could run synthetic but the service manager at Ocean Mazda gave me the warning when I asked about it.
I was at the race but got there late. Parked in the corral. Great race with Siegel taking it and to bad that the 70 had an electrical problem at the end to drop them back to 4th. Did not you were coming or could have got together. The only other RX-8 in the corral was Cavemancan.

Nope, Customhouse Broker! I am just repeating what was said to me. I have always used syn in my other cars until I bought my first 2004 RX-8. Same service manager for years at Ocean Mazda and just repeating what I was told. The issue is, do all the dealers enforce this? Or just the local dealer I contacted? It is not a risk for me to run non-syn as I change it on a regular basis and just forget about it until I see this come up again and again on this forum. Make your own choice and good luck.

Tire Kingdom, Meineke and my Mazda dealer told me that I can use synthetic. So I was using Mobil 1 synthetic for a long time (like 30k miles), but now I'm using regular oil (last 12k miles). I don't feel any difference in the engine between the 2 oils, so I'm using regular oil just because is cheap, and change it every 3k miles.

So seems that each dealer set their own standard.

Its not about "dealers enforce this" or not.

The problem here is that, Mazda never disallowed the use of Synthetic oil. most dealership people don't even know what they're talking about. (except for a few of course, like Wayne )

When you change your oil, you still have about 1/3-1/2 of oil in the system. Unlike Ester Grp V oil, grp II/III mineral even IV PAO need additives so the oil "sticks" to the metal surface. and with higher than usual heat from Rotary engine, these additives will die even faster.

So now I only use Ester Based Synthetic oil (Redline, Eneos, and a few others)

Didn't someone post that the 2007 owner's manual does say no synthetic?

It also seems like there are more "Warranty denied because of synthetic" posts now than there were a few years ago.

Not taking sides (forum rules prohibit religious and political arguments), just noticing stuff.

Man this is retarded, I dont understand why dealerships and Mazda are making such a big deal out of this. Ultimately the people running synthetic are doing it to take better care of their cars and then they are the ones that might end up getting screwed over? That just sounds like a load of BS. Im running 5w20 synth now but after all this I might just start taking it to the dealership and have them run what they want so when the engine goes they cant give me sh*t...
