Tell Mazda, Don't Just Complain

I know this has been brought up before, but I think it needs to be revisited. Mazda seems to be fairly open to comments made by the public, but it probably doesn't spend a ton of time wading through the infinite posts all over the Internet. A comment made by a Mazda rep at NAIAS 2006 shows this:

So, for example, if we received a flood of feedback on the need for a Kabura like rotary powered vehicle, we may put together a business plan Please tell readers to go to the www.MazdaUSA.com website and click on "contact us".

I really think that every single person here should take 2 minutes to craft a simple email to Mazda. Seems like everyone and their mother thinks that the RX-8 should be turbo/super-charged, but Mazda clearly isn't getting the message. This is indicated by the fact that the rep went on to say that an RX-8 with more power wouldn't be a good seller. We need to tell them what we think.

Here's a direct link to the email submission form: http://www.mazdausa.com/MusaWeb/emailMazda.action.

God almighty! How many more of these threads do we actually need?! There's one started already in the General Automotive forum and one started here in the RX-8 Discussion yesterday. Stop and let us live in peace!

The one that's in the RX-8 Discussion one is directly referencing requests to give feedback on the Kabura, more rotary cars, and cheaper engines. I am not advocating any of that. Also, the thread was called "Flood Mazda Now" -- using the word "flood" was a huge mistake and many people will gloss over thinking it has to do with the flooding issue in the RX-8 engines.

The General Automotive forum is where we're supposed to "Discuss all things automotive here other than the RX-8". I'm talking specifically about the RX-8.

I tried to put this thread in the right place and give it the right name. The other threads aren't what I'm talking about.

saturn, not sure what your rotary background/history is, but, when a Mazda rep says that a FI version of the 8 will not be a good seller he is basing this on history. That, and the fact that Mazda does not want to charge $10k more for the 8. $25k - $32k range brought the 8 mainstream and that's where they have determined they have to be to make money.

I'm not saying not to tell Mazda what you think or want, I'm just saying that they might not have the interest or the finances to do what they are asked. Neither Mazda nor their corporate parent have very deep pockets these days.

Telling Mazda now that FI is good on the RX-8 would not make Mazda start making one now. That would only let them reconsider making a RX-7 or introduce another sports car in the future. Even the MPS RX-8 was a limited 300 cars production.

there was not any MPS rx-8. ther was a Japanese Mazdaspeed version (actually 2 editions so far) but they were not at all Mazda Performance Series cars as they call them in europe or the american versions we think of as Mazdaspeed.

Point taken. There's probably a much better chance of seeing a 300+ hp Mazda sports coupe in the form of the Kabura or RX-7 (I know some might not call these coupes, but I'm trying to differentiate from roadsters like the Miata). I don't know all the history, but the fact that so many people are saying that they're trying to decide between the RX-8 and the 350z, I do think there is a market for a $33k-$37k RX-8 FI model. If they want to revive/cultivate the potential market for rotaries, I think this is a much cheaper/better option than designing a whole new car. Maybe the rotary is a bit of a lost cause and something Mazda isn't too worried about.

And I may be mistaken, Mazda seems to introduce the MPS version of its cars years after the initial model is released. So it's not completely irrational to think that the a MPS RX-8 could still be in the works.

Kaburas and RX-7s are not RX-8s. Therefore, we don't discuss them here in the RX-8 Discussion forum!

I'd move this thread to the General Automotive section, but there's already a Flood Mazda thread on this exact topic in there, so this thread is just locked.
