About 10 years ago at the family supper table, I made a comment to my accident-prone brother that it was people like him that caused insurance rates to be so high. He said he didn't know what I was talking about, and my father started laughing. Apparently my father's insurance company almost dropped him because my brother still lived at home and deemed a risk.
I realize that. Kind of funny because my brother used to be exactly like yours, just a risky driver. He was almost dropped from our insurance as well.

Sounds like you're ready to get your feet wet Go for it if you know what you're getting yourself into. Kudos on "not being the civic type"

Insurance is bad for me at all. Another reason I couldn't really go with the Z or S2k.
I have a Protege5. When I checked on insurance for the RX-8 is was about $70 more per six months, virtually the same.

I bet an Si would be significantly more to insure, since young drivers are much more likely to own them.

I also checked on insurance for an S2000. Crazy money to insure that car.

Most RX-8s are sold with stability control (definitely get one with it) and it's inherently a very balanced car. There's no other car I feel more confident driving down an unfamiliar curvy road. This probably results in low accident rates as sports cars go, and thus relatively cheap insurance.

I'm actually looking at a Z right now and the insurance quote I got was about $60 more for 6 months than I pay on my 8, full coverage, so it was actually a lot less than I thought.

Went back to the dealear today to check out a Mazdaspeed 6, and I met with the same salesman I did this past saturday. He took me out in the RX8 again.... Backroads FOR THE WIN! I love it even more now. We went back on the highway too and I got a thumbs up from a motorcyclist, god I love this car. The check comes next week so hopefully it's gonna happen, wish me luck.
