THANX to RX8 Club

THANX to RX8 Club
I bought my 2005 RX8 in January 2007. I love it! In April the brakes began to squeal LOUD with only 13K miles on the car. It was embarrassing to drive. Took it to the local Mazda dealer and had the brakes checked. Was told it was due to the composition of the pads and some squeal was to be expected. Did a search on the RX8 club site and saw that other owners took in a Technical Service Bulletin about squealing brakes to their Mazda dealer service. I printed off the TSB and took it in. This time no questions asked (same service agent). Had the car back next day with new pads -- and no more squeal. Any no charge! THANX to the information I got from the RX8 club! I'll be reading the posts every week!

A poster with one post, searched, found info, and got it fixed.
First time ever that happened?
Congrats sir, and welcome to the club. You have passed your initiation and may now feel free to be an idiot (like the rest of us) at any time. If anyone questions, simply point to your first post.

Yup, you are so right -- I am a noob with one post (now two). I bought my whitewater pearl RX8 (manual 6) and want it to be performing as it should before I start doing mods. The Mazda brake pads may not be the best as there are far better aftermarket pads out there, but I don't think I should be forced to buy them now with only 13K miles on the car. Want to drive it for a few months to figure out what I want to do. I'm thinking of tint as my first mod. Been reading a lot of posts to see what others have done -- some I like, some not. May have to hold back on some for now to pay for gas -- sigh. I keep telling myself as a new owner: Smiles per gallon, not miles per gallon. Smiles per gallon, not miles per gallon. Smiles per gallon not...

Kors-jan, welcome!
I think you get one of the few... the coveted... Best First First Post Award. (Wish I had been smart enough to get one of those.)
As far as dealers are concerning you may want to search in which ever region forum covers where you live for "good dealer", "Bad dealer", "great experience" and so on.
This could help you find a dealer that will be more helpful and give you less of a run-around.

OK, here's my third post (this could be addictive). Actually, the service department at my local dealership has treated me quite well -- though I got a run-a-round answer the first time about my brakes. It's interesting, but the TSB said the dealer could do the brake work if the customer complained about it. Well, after doing a thorough search of the RX8Club website to see what others said about this, I became aware of the TSB. Showing it to the service agent and speaking kindly to him, he responded quite quickly and without complaint. Another RX8 owner a few miles away that I met complained a lot to me about our local dealer's service dept -- but I usually find if I speak nice and build a relationship with a merchant, they will respond well to me and my concerns (it's to their benefit, afterall). This is my second time with them and I can already see them knowing who I am and don't think of me as being some "in-their-face" guy who complains all the time. I do want good work from them and expect them to respond to my concerns, and so far they have (though it did take a TSB to get them moving). I'll keep going there for now. If I do my minor work (oil change, etc) with them, then when it comes to something bigger, they will respond better to me, I believe. I'm not some young kid with no experience with cars and service departments. I'm 54. (and, yes, I'm past my mid-life crisis). I really appreciate the RX8Club for great information!
