Scrapey noises are apparently normal in first gear with the clutch depressed. Throwout bearings, or so the maintenance at my dealer tells me. Even if it is loud and hideous.
I may just be being **** about a brand new car.
The second thing I wanted to mention was gas mileage.
I had an Aveo as the rx-8 replacement while it was at the shop.
That car gets barely over 200 miles per gas tank and is not... fun. 103 horsepower. Ugh. I actually found a forum for Chevy Aveos just for grins. They are complaining about their mileage and range, too.
No matter how you look at it, the grass is always greener on the other side.

The only thing I can figure is the whining of the synchros, my Protege5 used to do the same thing (makes a whoop-whoop noise like Curly from the 3-stooges)...I'm pretty sure that is normal, but if it's something horrible and vile sounding, I'd figure that would be a problem.
