Things I love/hate about my rx8
#28
Love doin' mods
hate payin' for them
Love the feel and sound of the rotary at high RPM on a twisty road
Hate being in traffic in this car, heat soak in warm weather
Love doin' mods
wish I had more time to do them.
I have BHR ignition, Sohn and high flow cat to go on it...

What I hate about my RX-8
A 2007, fully loaded with clutchless shifting, Bose speakers with a 6-CD changer, Galaxy Grey. I have 65,000 km on it, and my repair bills in the last two years alone total WELL over $3000. It has the uncanny ability to stall half way out of my garage, and then flood. It has done this once, twice, thrice, to the tune of $1500 each time. I have replaced the battery three times, and countless spark plugs and coils. Now my front mud flaps are literally falling off, to the tune of $280 to get replaced (you see you have to buy two from Mazda, even if you need only one...), and my inner tire well walls are rusting.
This car is a total lemon, the cost of repairs over a well-acknowledged by Mazda stalling issue that you can't control, and the cost of regular 'tune-ups' and other bu#$%%t that comes up all time is ridiculous. Nevermind the horrendous gas mileage and insurance costs that come along with it. I bought this brand-new off the showroom floor in October 2007. What a TOTAL disappointment...
Has this model been discontinued? I think we all should have a rebate back for our trouble in trusting Mazda's "reliability".. what a crock of baloney...
I'm open to offers, I want to get rid of this thing, thanks a lot Mazda ...

FYI, flooding only occurs when there is a part failure somewhere. You can shut the engine off cold without a concern about flooding as long as everything is healthy. $1,500 for flooding? You were getting raped by dealers, and I'm not surprised you are bitter. Deflooding is easily done for free, and you can replace all 4 coils, plugs, and wires for $192 in parts and 10 minutes of labor. Hell, you can upgrade to the BHR kit for $500 and never have a single ignition failure again for the life of the car.
I'm sorry it took you so long to find the forum, we could have saved you a whole ton of money, pain, and aggravation.
The RX-8 has it's faults, but virtually every major problem, and all minor ones, can be easily avoided and/or fixed for peanuts. My RX-8 was the most reliable car I've ever owned, even more reliable than my Corolla was. Seriously.

Lol my rx8 has less power and fewer hp/lb than my mx5. MX5 is smooth steady torque curve from 3000-6900. The rx8 has a big punch around 4500 and then is smooth up to 9000.
Love : Looks, Handling, Stock Projectors, 3rd and 4th door. Trunk size, back seat, 6 speeds, handles like a big miata, steering wheel volume/cruise controls, light aluminum hood, exhaust note, 9k rpm redline, redline buzzer (seriously hope I can can change when that sounds once I swap to v8.)
Hate : Lack of low end torque, apex seals, coolant seals, oil control seals, omp, premix, convoluted oil cooling system, coils, plug location, ugly engine (with covers off). The stupid wheels my car came with, no aux/usb in on radio,

B) my car never stalls out on me randomly. Also the car should be fully warmed up before you let off the e brake to go backing out of your garage. If you are stalling try learning to clutch better unless you have the automatic. Maybe try not sucking at letting the car warmup.
c) I am a 26 year old male with 1 speeding ticket on my MVR and I added the rx8 to my insurance (progressive) for 11$ a month.
D) this aint no Honda, but sure aint no hyundai either. Yeah you are gonna have to have work done to it. But if you follow routine maint schedule mazda has then you should rarely have any unexpected expense. And when you do, you can feel free to ask your local Mazda dealer who else you can take it too. I know most dealers will tell who the recommend for authorized dealer repair and service. The shop I worked for before becoming disabled did Authorized Dealer repair for all US Makes, most japanese (horizontally opposed toyota/subaru) makes, and BMW.
