Thinking about it...
I have this thing about only buying domestic cars, and I love my Mustang, but the V6 just doesn't have the kind of power I want, and there's no way in hell I'm paying for the insurance for a GT. So, I was thinking about it, and I really love the RX-8...It's just an awesome car- the styling is amazing. But let me ask you guys, how do you really feel about the RX-8? How does the rotary engine hold up? Last I heard about these types of engines, they weren't very reliable when modded, but I don't know so I figured I'd ask the guys who would. Any help is appreciated, so thanks in advance.

Ive had a couple of cars in the past(Corolla's, Prelude's, Eclipse, Integras...) and one of which was a V6 convertable mustang. Just to cut this story short... the V6 is Trash and a waste of money, not to mention a horrible car. The GT on the other hand is a much faster car (depending on the year). when modded they do push a lot of juice out.... but..... its Domestic. Thats the key factor. Domestic cars arent That good IMO. They are built like crap (Its built a lot better than the V6 though). Now getting to the rx8. Its a fast car... like... really fast. Its sexy, its SUPER comfortable, it has a sweet Stock System, has a unique sound (Its rotary, duuh), it Fits 4 people (2 back suicide doors), and the rotary engine (If maintained properly) will run smoother than a GT in the long run. Im not trying to take the 8's side because I own one, but Ive driven a GT a lot in the past. Overall, this is just a funner car to drive.
The Diffrence is what YOU want.
my friend is all about Domesic cars and he drives a GTO. He got his because he is all about Drag racing!!
If that is you, then dont get the Rx8. Its fast, but it wasnt built for Drag. Its a fast fun car to drive. Its like living in a roller coaster
It all boils down to what you really want, but I hope this helped a bit.

I'm going to go ahead and defend the car, since I do like it. I've driven older model Mustangs before, and I agree, they weren't worth a ****; GT or V6. The new model is an entirely different story. The 4.0 has a lot of potential and the car itself is amazing- I get compliments and turn heads every day with it. As for the automatic, I lived in the city when I bought the car so it was more practical. I now live in the suburbs, so now with the open roads, I'd like a manual. But this isn't about my Mustang, so I'll admit, I'm with you on the RX-8. It's an awesome car. I've been behind the wheel of one and it was a blast. But don't knock the S197 Mustang if you know nothing about it- and it's obvious that you don't. Save your ignorance. Thanks for the help otherwise.

my understanding of the rx8 is it is a great all around car. But unless you are willing to sink 10's of thousands of dollars to make more power, this is not the car for you.
Mustangs are much friendlier to to mods. If that is the path you want to take (modding, then I would be looking at an older stang gt)

I used to be an only GM guy, but I realized there is no such thing as an American car company anymore, or japanese or german for that matter. They are all big multinationals. If you have any kind of retirement plan, mutual funds, etc, you probably indirectly own stock in all of them. If your car is imported, you may not be helping American manufacturing workers, but you are helping American port workers, etc.
Also, just because a car is from a "domestic" brand doesn't mean it is manufactured in America. My old Chevy Silverado was built in Canada. My wife's Acura TL was built in Ohio.

Happy with the RX8
I don't know if this will help you, but i'll post anyhow. I used to have (when I was a young man) this bright orange (tangerine) Capri. It was actually the lincoln mercury version of the 5.0 liter mustang (like a 1979 ) It had a manual transmission and just had gut wrenching torque (for a stock car). It was a blast! The RX-8 by comparison (although this is many, many years later) is like a freaking fighter jet! I was never as happy with that mustang as I am with this freaking car! True, the low end torque is mostly non-existent, but the car has good, useable power and it is truly a unique vehicle! It does what it does very, very well. Most things (cars included) that straddle the fence and try to be 2 things at once tend to suck. Mazda pulled it off with this car. It is a fantastic 2+2 vehicle! And the body styling......Damn! I just don't see how anyone could possibly get anything more well rounded and stunning for the money....

You ask for opinions
You get opinions
You act like an ***
Go drive your automatice rustang and troll somewhere else.

Romeo- Look at the signature. That's an S197. That is mine. Agreed. They are awesome. And as for you nzarnow, I asked for opinions of the RX8, not to have my Mustang blasted. Don't insult someone's car without expecting them to retaliate. Don't like it? Don't hate on it. I didn't act like an *** and I suspect you'd do the same if a 350Z owner came to this forum and called your RX8 a piece of ****, wouldn't you? Yeah I thought so, shitbird. Thanks to all else for your feedback and experiences.

pampanito, your an idiot.
lol
Your asking for an opinion on an rx8 and your coming from being a mustang owner,... dont you think its obvious to compare the two???
"Hey, I have Cingluar, should I get Verizon?" Do you expect somebody to tell you all about verizon w/o comparing it to Cingular since thats what your coming from?
dude, I hope lightning strikes your right headlight.

I'm an idiot. This coming from the guy who can't use the right form of a word. I love irony. Quick lesson: You're is a contraction of you are. Not "your". Moron. I hope you fall into a well, you undereducated, over-opinionated *****.
And no, it's not obvious to compare the Mustang's 4.0L V6 to a rotary engine if you've never had much experience with the latter. ****.
P.S- I have Sprint.

And Romeo, I'm not wasting your time. You keep coming back to me. You like the abuse, and it's obvious that you enjoy it when I flame your forum boyfriends too. It's okay, I don't mind.

The car based on a 1978 sedan. What a performance background. AND since you got personal, now I get to dig into my photobucket.
