Thinking about purchasing
Hey everybody! I'm in the market for a new car and have felt a strong draw towards the RX-8 as I'm sure all of you have. I was wondering how the car holds up in winter weather since it's RWD. I live in Richmond, Va (Shortpump for those of you who know the area) and occasionally we get snow/slushy/sleety/nastiness. This car would be my DD and while, like everyone else, I would be staying in during a major snow storm, I would need to drive around in the sleety nastiness occassionally. Thanks for your input in advance!

People seem to think the Pirelli PZero Nero M&S perform well in snow and rain. Tire Rack rates them as superior (highest rating) in dry and wet condition and good/excellent in winter conditions. If you drive in any amount of snow with the stock tires you will likely die.
Again, this is all second hand info, but comes straight from people I know personally who have RX-8's.

VIPERGT089,
I live in Midlothian. I can personally attest to the fact that if it snows, and the car has on the stock "summer tires", you should leave it in the garage. Even in the infrequent light slushy snows here in the Richmond, the car is not safe with the OEM tires.
If you can afford to park it when snow/ice is on the road, the stock tires are fine otherwise.
Regardless, the problem is easily fixed by switching to all season tires. IMHO there is insufficient snow here in Richmond to justify a second set of wheels with winter tires. I am looking at moving to the Pirelli PZero Nero M&S tires soon. While not a perfect snow solution, form posts I have read they are at least safe to drive in winter conditions.
You can also PM ELARA, who has been running the PZero Neros here in Richmond for a while.

Hey there viper, I live in stormy northern NJ where we get some serious snow as well. Snow tires help but don't do much, try to avoid driving in snow as much as possible. On ice, snow tires or not your going to lose control, I near died once trying to be stupid driving around. Since I try not to drive around in any snow at all, even flurrys. But best of luck
