Thinking about a Speed6 to Supplement the Rx8
Stopped at the dealership to address some other issues (water in tail & fog lights ~ still under warranty), and with the Audi's getting some what long in the tooth and snow coming to the high country, I find myself giving some thought to perhaps supplementing the Rx8 in the garage with a MazdaSpeed6. While at the dealership I hear two things.
First, the Speed 6 is finally (well it will be by @ December 2nd in the Rocky Mtn State) here. So, while this may not be the right, or best forum to ask, but a point in the right direction would be appreciated:
1. Anyone know if there's any chipping available, or being done to the Speed6? I guess the 6 might also be known as an "Atenza" in Japan and other parts of the world? Point being, with a turbo car (at least that's been my experience in the Audi world), tunners can ussually pull another 15% to 20% more power out of the engine, ..... if they know what they're doing. According to the Speed6 broucher, the factory is only running a max of @ 15.x psi to make @ 274 bhp.
2. I'm wondering what chance there is of my SSR comp 18x8.5" and Ronal 18x8.5" track rims fitting on the MazdaSpeed 6. The stock Speed6 wheels, at least for the US market wll be 18x7" running 215/45x18
3. The dealer manager said he had recently returned from a factory intro for the Speed6 where the dealers had a chance to drive several on a track. I asked if he'd heard any word or rumors about a possible Speed Rx8. His comment was they (the dealers) understand one will be coming; that development testing with the supercharged version had proved unsatisfactory, and Mazda was now looking at a twin turbo charger (I take this with a grain or two of salt) version which could be making as much as 400 ~ 400+ bhp, but probably not till 2007. Rumors, but then I suppose that partly what lists are for :-) Cheers
PS ~ I didn't realize the Shinka edition Rx8's get a stiffer chassis than the stock cars, or are all the newer Rx8's getting foam fill chassis members too?
Now that I look more closely, sorry worng forum this should probably be moved to the "General Discussion" section. Bueller, anyone? How do I do that?

1) No chipping, and it will be about a year or two before its availalbe. The limited production of the car will heavily limit the aftermarket. You buy an MPS 6 for a car thats already how you want it, not as one to mod. If you want a car that can be quickly power modded. Get a legacy GT. For a mere 600 bucks, you can get a reflasher which bumps power to around 300 bhp.

2) No. You have to have the perfect offset for 8.5's to fit on a 6. Even then, you have to roll the rear fenders. Generally the biggest wheel fit yet on the car (without a wide body kit) is 245/40/17 on a 17x8 with a +48 offset. (Have to roll the ENTIRE rear fender lip) Fitment in the front wheel well is also limited, in both height and width (upper a-arm gets in the way). So you can't go too big, or too wide.
3) Never believe anything dealers tell you. Their sources are about as reliable as a new poster on a forum. For every dealer that knows what their talking about, there is about 100 that don't.
