I did read it and again .. it was helpful, but it doesn't really answer what I was asking for. As for me staring at this thread, I use firefox and have about 9 tabs open .... so yes, it may appear as though I'm just looking at this thread, but in reality I've hit several pages on this useless forum.

I could care less about this forum or how thin the ice is ... I don't plan on being a perm. member of this P.O.S.

To answer your initial questions:

Rotary engines have a bad rap as being "unreliable". This is due to the old FD RX-7's which had twin turbos. Due to the forced injection and the high heat output, many broke down. This has given people the wrong impression that all rotaries have problems.

This is a serious misconception. The 13B in the RX8 is an NA engine (i.e., not turbo'd) and does not suffer from the same problems as the old RX-7's. Due to fewer moving parts in the rotary than in a conventional "piston" engine, the rotary actually can be much more reliable and last longer than a piston engine could. My dad's older RX-7 (before they were turbo'd) lasted over 200,000 miles. The 8 has the potential to do the same.

As the 8 you are looking at is an 07, get it. 04's and 05's had some issues regarding failing vacumn tests, and got their engines replaced. This has been corrected for the recent model years, so it shouldn't be an issue.

My 2004 has 60,000 miles on it and is still going as strong as the first day it was created. We have one guy on here who just hit 150,000 miles in his '04.

As for pricing, yes, 25k is a good price for a new RX-8. What package is it? Sport, Touring, or Grand Touring? I'm assuming it's not a Grand touring, b/c you wouldn't get a new GT for that price.

Maintenance is actually pretty simple. Be sure for the first couple of thousand miles to break in the engine properly. After that, all that you need to do is make sure every few fill ups the oil level is ok. These rotaries are designed to drink oil.

This is actually a pretty tight-knit community. If you purchase the car, this can be an extremely valuable site for knowledge. The reason people are giving you crap is because these questions are asked like 10 times a day, and it's easy to hit the search button and find the answer for yourself. Otherwise, welcome! Hope you get the car...........by far one of the most fun cars on the road.

Awesome, thank you ... that's exactly what I was looking for.

The car actually is a Grand Touring ... Leather, 6 disc changer, sunroof, the works. The only thing it doesn't have that I want a manual transmission, which, I live in a big city, so that might end up being a good thing. My guess is that it was a custom order or something and the person backed out, now they have to cut their losses and move the car out of the showroom before the 08's roll in.

I have a friend that owned an RX-7 with the wankle rotary engine and he claims that it was the best car he ever owned, never had a problem with it, that's the experience I would like to have with the 8.

I know what it's like being a part of a car forum, I've been a part of the 3 forum for over a year now, I guess my point is that on my forums we get the same thing ... on a much higher volume, actually, and we don't treat people that way, why should you? We show them the links they need and don't give them crap about it, we welcome their inquiries and invite them to join other discussions. There's no need to be pissy about someone asking questions, even if they're asked 4,000 times a day.

Yeah, I do agree with you on the whole attitude thing. Sometimes people get annoyed having to read the same questions every day, myself included. I can see where everyone else is coming from, but I'm a firm believer that if a thread annoys you, don't post on it.

I would actually advise you to wait for the manual, if it's what you want. The 07 autos are better than the 04 - 05 automatics in terms of power, but in terms of enjoyment, the automatics are 1000x times less fun than the manuals. If you get the auto and you want a manual, you will regret it.

There's gotta be another 8 in the area for you that is an MT. Might cost you 1500 more, but it's worth it. And that's one thing that pretty much anyone on this forum would agree with.

The only reason I'm not sold on the idea of waiting for a MT is the fact that at least 6 times a week I'm in bumper to bumper traffic. To counterbalance that, I'd be pretty nervous about driving such a nice car through those traffic areas anyway, so I might just find a different way to work anyway And I agree ... 1/2 the fun of having a sweet sports car like the 8 is having that manual tranny.

Traffic does suck with a manual, I agree. You'll still have a good time with the automatic, although the horsepower is decreased to 212 (from 232) and redline in decreased to 7500 RPM (down from 9,000). the autos do have paddle shifters on the steering wheel, so when you're not in traffic at least shifting is an option. The suspension is the same, so all the fun is there in the turns. It just may take you a little longer to get up to the speed you want than in the manual.

If you had searched you would have realized the engine dies at 60k, NOT 50k...

Bullshit. Show us an example of a car forum where that's a reality, even without the 4,000 exaggeration.

And for god's sakes, you don't want to live with an automatic for 5 years. Well, you won't. You'll trade it in for an MT or another car once you realize the competition of its class.

My 3 forums are full of very nice people .. unlike this P.O.S.

Huskey seems to be the only person that understands this concept:

If you don't like the thread ... don't post in it.

Na, for a second there Huskey gave me some hope that this forum actually had some decent people in it. It appears he's a rarity around here.

Dude, you don't read very well ... I've told you that I followed your links and they were helpful ... I don't know how many times I have to say that, what I didn't need was the bitching and the condescending tudes.

Oh PS, I like my 8, check out the Little Things Thread. I would link it, but my net is too slow to make it worth my while. But if you search for it, a few hours of cool reading.
