Is it just me… or do those somehow not seem like quite the right words to describe the RX-8?

^^Agreed, Leesha. I had to wait 26 years to buy a new "sports car", since my last BN Mazda, and my 8 could very well be the last BN car I ever buy.

While I'm a "driving" enthusiast -admittedly not truly hard-core but I do appreciate the strengths of the RX-8- I'm not a "racing" enthusiast (there is a difference) and I intend to make this car last a good, long time. I'm afraid that Ike will have to be disappointed if he expects all others to think of the 8 in the same disposable terms that he seemingly does. If it helps, Ike, just consider it a character flaw on my part.

It's the best car I've ever owned, the most fun (even more fun than my '80 RX-7) and I'm going to take very, very good care of it. I didn't buy it as a daily driver and don't intend to start now. It is very much my "recreational vehicle". Nothing wrong with that at all. I have a neighbor with a $40,000 truck and $30,000 trailer that he only uses 3 times a year. Now THAT's a waste, IMO. At least my 8 is used a few times a week for 8 or 9 months out of the year.

Actually, it is some collectable car, because it's the only production rotary engine car in existance at the moment, which sets it appart from every other car being produced today.

Granted it's no exotic super car or what have you, but to me personally, I think it's a marvelous piece of art & engineering, and I currently don't have any plans of trading it in.

Would you guys like a tissue? I'm sorry, but it's ridiculous to baby a car that is very easy to aquire and can be had new for under 25k and used for under 15k. An RX-8 is a car you buy to drive and enjoy whenever, not treat like it some collectors item, beacause it's NOT.

theres nothing wrong with wanting to take care of something that you think is beautiful........its good to appreciate the things you own......and if you had 10,000$ roll of cash im sure you would take care of it.........think of it that way

Very well-stated.

Best bet is to have a winter car and keep the sports car out of the salt.

What's the matter ikea? Menstrual cramps got to you again?

Here...

While I don;t think the 8 hasn't reached the collector's status like the Miura or the Dussenberg, but its unique rotary engine design makes it stand out as "thinking out of the box" approach to the combustion engine. I suppose that's the reason why uber-car enthusiast Jay Leno has an 05 RX-8 and a Cosmo to share the garage with a Veyron, a Ford GT40 and other collector cars.

Please if you can don't take your 8 out in the salt cuz this is what will happen... This is the typical rusting spot!!

Check this prior post that I made re: rust and also the PICS!
