Hi guys,

I am getting my yellow 8 soon and is gonna custom fit the interior leather to 2 tone yellow/black from the original full black color. I have found many pics of 2 tone yellow/black from the web and showed them to my installer. However, he claims that it is best to know the color code of the yellow leather that I wanna install.

So those who had it done on their ride, can give me some advise on the above? Thanks a lot.

 

Color code? Each leather company has their own color designations, and even then shades vary from one batch to another. My guess is the installer is putting you off until you actually have the car and can bring it in. Until then he won't know how serious you are.

I think u've misunderstood. The installer knows I am serious as my Mazda sales guy promised to change the interior to 2 tone leather for me free of charge. This installer is also our local Mazda agent appointed agent to do all their cars, hence they know that I am definitely gonna fix it there. Just that he do not know which yellow I really want.

Also, according to them, colour codes for leather are international standads, hence I came here to look for advise.

Pardon my ignorance but what is Pantone?

 

Oh, just found out that Pantone is some sort of color chart. The problem is all the 2 tone yellow/black I've seen are photos on the web. I believe all these are local fitted as RX8 does not come with this combo....hence there is no way to tell which tone of yellow it is.

 

Maybe you could call some dealerships and try to find one with this mod done to the seats. Then try to get the code from them. It sounds like the Installer of yours has never done this mod. It could also be the color code of the paint used on the yellow 8's maybe?

 

I had mine done by Classic Soft-Trim. The colors were

Trim = Graphite 008
Inserts = Yellow 603

I imagine these color codes are proprietary to Classic Soft-Trim.

Anyway, the way I arrived at the colors was by taking the sample swatches to a lightning-yellow they had sitting on the lot and deciding what looked best. Your installer should have a complete set of sample swatches for you to look at to help you decide.

Pur Nrg, thanks for clarifying, I guess the installer is throwing some smoke at me cause I really don't know anything about colour codes

 

I know that the yellow/black interior wasn't released in the U.S., but did it get released anywhere else? There were lots of photos from Mazda early on...

 

From what my dealer told me, there is no production version of yellow/black leather combi.

 

I think were talking about 3rd party trimmers.

As for leather, its a natural product, even mazda cant match the seats if you need to replace one (of the standard leather seats).

 

Those pictures were from the concept version of the RX8 (the yellow one). The color never made it to production.
