To those who park/garage ur 8 : what precations do u take

Ok, so you garage/park your car for the winter.
What precautions do you take?
Ie,
I don't want to go overboard, ie don't want to put special stuff. Carpets under the tires etc. I want the easy lazy way. Low maintenance. I love my gurl but won't give my life for her.

1. So tires won't go "flat"
I read that airplanes have to be moved every day or the tires will not be rounded, ie flat on one side.

How often on the car? More or less.

2. How about how long of not starting the car so the gas won't go bad. I once parked a car, meant to start it ever so often but forgot, and the fuel injectors got pluged/dirty. I had to install new injectors. Oh, yes, I put that fuel injector liquid. Did not work. Car would only go about 20 mph.
I then put 2 cans of that stuff into the gas tank but not full tank. It backfired and almost burned the car. Talk about going crazy/scared.

I sold that car to my neighbor. Remember if your friend/neighbor pisses you off, don't beat him up, just sell him your used car ( or give him your ex-wife). He will suffer forever!

3. How long parked before the oil goes bad/dry?

4. How about the battery?
Same as the bike, put a slow trickle charger on it?

5. How about washing it if it's not garaged but left covered outside?

I have 3 cars and 1 bike.

I don't have a normal job ie don't drive to work.
In the last 3 days I have driven 12 miles. That is on my "daily driver", the 8s little sister, MX-3

12 miles cause I went to eat 2 times, grocery shopping twice, wally world once and xmas shopping once.

I normally don't drive more than 20 miles per week unless I go joy riding.

Sometimes I go on vacation for a month or 2 so can't start the cars. Would not trust anyone with my 8.

TIA

You need to drive it once every two weeks,

But with that type of milage you will still need to charge the battery.

you don't need to drive it, but a battery trickler would help

Just disconnect the battery and you will have no problems with it draining. If you are worried about flat spots on tires then just put up on jack stands, this will also help out the suspension. Make sure you have a full tank of gas so it is less likely to get water condensation in it. I had a 240sx stored for almost a year, and all I did was disconnect the battery and fill it up with gas. When I hooked the battery back up, it started right up, no problems whatsoever.

oh and about the oil, just change it before storage and then after storage. Did this with both the 240sx and the 8 and they were fine.

1. So tires won't go "flat"

4 small squares of carpet are pretty easy to toss in front of the tires and drive onto. Double thick is better. Definitely qualifies as the "easy lazy way". You don't need jackstands unless your winter storage is about six months long. Car dealers leave new cars outdoors for months in winter. No problem.

If it worries you, back the car out once a month and roll back on the carpet with a different section of the tire on the carpet.

2. How about how long of not starting the car so the gas won't go bad.

Put a minimal dose of Sta-bil in the gas tank and fill the tank before you park it. I start my car once a week and warm it up to operating temperature for at least 15 to 20 minutes. You can easily go 2 weeks between warm-ups and then you don't need to remove the battery.

3. How long parked before the oil goes bad/dry?

Longer than one season. No worry. Change it before you park it for the season and don't worry about it.

4. How about the battery?
Same as the bike, put a slow trickle charger on it?

If you run the car at least every two weeks, you don't need a trickle charger.

5. How about washing it if it's not garaged but left covered outside?

You always want to put a cover on a clean car, never a dusty or dirty car, regardless of the season.

Sometimes I go on vacation for a month or 2 so can't start the cars. Would not trust anyone with my 8.

In that case, remove the battery. Re-install it and start the car up on your return, roll it a bit to prevent the flat spot.

Got enought opinions yet?

I have mine parked in a non headed garage on boards now.....keeps them off the wet floor (dirt floor) started it 4 the first time in 5 weeks yesterday and started on first crank over.....change oil when u get it out.........start every once and awhile if u can if not trickle charge that damn thing.... I'm not worried about the flat tire thing tires any more are made out of good material and with as low of profile as these can't even tell when they're low on air....tires will b fine to just let sit.......i put mine on boards to keep the water from sitting aroudn them and causeing them to crack..
