B. S. I'm sorry, but a generic legalese statement based on 10-year old legalese statements does not constitute a Mazda warranty exclusion. If the Mobil1 site is your guide, try looking up what oil is recommended for an 1995 RX-7in the "Which Oil for my car?" section of their web site - yup, they recommend Mobil1 for the rotary engine.

Mazda's owners manual and warranty handbook make no mention of synthetic oil, either positive or negative. All they specify is that the oil you use must meet API SL specification. If I choose to use a synthetic API SL motor oil, that's completely warranty compliant.

If you disagree, show me anything official from Mazda (you know, the ones actually providing the warranty) that states that the use of synthetic oil will void the RX-8 warranty. (PS - it's OK, you can't find anything, because there isn't anything). Use an SL oil of the correct viscosity, and it absolutely does not matter where it came from.

Regards,
Gordon

Hey Gordo I am just trying to give everyone a heads up.
Anyway I am just giving information so if anyone wants to do further research they can. Quaker state also has a statement for "some" rotary engines. I guess they are just saying that to cover their A$$.

Yeah, like this kind of "the sky is falling" nonsense provides any value to anyone? Ooh, don't use synthetic, because... well, just because! Perhaps the value comes from someone who is actually trying to use facts to set straight the mass hysteria? Sorry you got your panties in a knot because I disagreed with you - I certainly don't disagree with everyone, just the ones posting BS. Nothing personal. I have always agreed with people who have their facts straight! But hey, sorry if I'm not "cool like that". Do ya figure the forum members appreciate your coolness or the actual truth about technical issues for their cars?

Everyone else, heads up - that "********" hasn't got a clue what he's talking about. The straight scoop is that if you wish to benefit from the superior lubrication and cold start properties of synthetic oils, it is perfectly safe and warranty-compliant to do so. Make your own informed choices, based on actual research and facts.

Regards,
Gordon

.I just simply copied information that some people might want to know. I guess they just have that on their website for the hell of it hugh? I think they are covering their a$$ for something.

Anyway FYI I have always used full synthetic in my 94TT RX-7 (amsoil) So I am not telling anyone not to use it.

I voided my warranty on that car be other means anyway.

yackity smackity blah blah blah Good night!

I think you're being overly defensive rxevolve10...

Indeed the owners manual for the rx8 does not mention anything particular about synthetic oil, just the weight and grade that it should be.

In the 1990 FC Rx7 shop manual it states with regards to oil "SF (Mineral Oil Only)" (page D-3)

In the 1994 FD Rx7 owners manual it states with regards to oil "API Service SG ... (Mineral oil only)" (page 9-2)

In the 2004 Rx8 owners manual it states with regards to oil "The quality designation SL or ILSAC must be on the label" (page 8-9) - it doesn't mention mineral or synthetic anywhere.

So yes - in the past the owners/shop manual for the rx7 did state the use of mineral oil for the rotary engine. For the rx8 it does not. (it also specifies different weights and API service grades too)

There's been a lot of baloney and "I think I'm an expert" on the synthetic-vs-mineral threads (and just so you're not offended, I don't think yours is one of them) but the bottom line is that there has been significant advances in the last 5-10 years with respect to motor oil - and in my opinion, if the owner's manual doesn't state anything about synthetic vs. mineral then that's what I believe. More than likely the websites you're referencing have information based on the rx7's owners manuals guidelines, and it just doesn't apply to the rx8.

I think you're taking it personally... It's cool that you found links and whatnot on these oil manufacturers' websites but I think Mazda should be where the buck stops regarding what will and won't void your warranty, or what is or isn't the right kind of oil to use in the rx8. Not everything found on the internet should be considered factual or up to date.

Simon.

Well, you stated as fact that use of Mobile 1 would void the warranty, but at the very least, that "fact" is being disputed.

As for the "natural is always better than synthetic" comment...we talking breasts or oil here??? I think you're in the wrong forum :-D

I copied that from Mobil 1 website. I did not state it that they did. Check out there sight it is word for word what they stated.

Gord I hope you are right about the whole Mobil 1 thing....I do agree Mazda does not have anything in the manual.

your first post stated unequivocally:

using mobil 1 synthetic will void your RX-8 warranty

Don't take offense if someone points out that this is false.

I think the point is that the RX-8 owners' manual does not prohibit synthetic oil. If that's the case and there are no other official warnings against it (for instance, engine placards, etc) then there is no way that synthetic (Mobil or otherwise) can void your warranty as long as it meets the other specs called for (weight and API service rating). The only other possibility I can imagine is if Mobil1 stated on the bottle that the product should not be used in rotary engines.
