Thought some of you Rotary owners would like to see this...

SleepyZ, you can assure the owners of the plant that the demand for rebuilds for RX-7's in the Richmond metro area alone would keep at least one rebuilder busy continuously. Since your plant is conveniently situated between NoVa and Va Beach markets as well, you all could wind up being VERY busy.
Let us all know if you ever do have a rotary meetup there or something, I can let alot of local rotary owners know.
Additionally since it sounds like you're into sports cars with the Z's and all, and you're are probably in the Richmond area. soooo come on down to one of the weekly Friday night Starbucks meets http://www.rx7club.com/showthread.php?t=533164. Or come out to some autocrosses with VMSC or NASA.

Ok gotta catch up now, first I actually went to the richmond starbucks meet once a few months ago, I just moved to richmond from northern california and a few Z people told me to come out. I store my z and rarely take it out, its gotta be a nice night for me to hit up starbucks. If you ever see a white z32(1990 300zx) with bronze volk se37ks and cali plates around thats mine, I wont be out there this friday, gotta it cleaned up for a z show in hampton saturday.
TT/yoshii, I call him twin turbo for fun, he is a funny guy and jokes a lot with us. His name is actually Toyoshii(spelt wrong probably) but they said call him TT from day one so yeah he is twin turbo to me.
BTW small note, he has a bad *** pic on his desk(I will try to snap a pic of it to share) of his boss building a rotor, who he simply calls "the master", he said he is the master of the rotary and we actually meet him briefly the first few days but he went had to go back to japan. TT still builds almost all of them though, his boss is just a little more experienced, TT has 15 years of rotors under his belt with rotors.
And finally oil, I dont know honestly, all I know is they got a few barrels of 76 synthetic 5w-20 for running the dyno's before the motors are shipped out.

Welcome! Stay a while!
Now if you can somehow get some stats on what model year of the engine failures and mileage, AT/MT, geographic location, etc that would be great. It will stop those silly baseless polls. Just do the James Bond thing.... This message should self destruct in 30 seconds once you read it.

Yeah sorry the motors are for the dealers to sell, not for direct sale. As for the mileage and location, cant help you there either, some/most of the motors dont have info attatched as some of the dealers dont follow the directions. Like I said though, most of the issues are that the motor had no compression which is more then likely was due to people using non premium gas and not reving it up enough, massive carbon build up on the rotors. I imagine there may be a few lack of checking the oil motors. BTW small complaint on my side which might have nothing to do with the carbon, damn ethanol in the gas, personally I am not a expert at all but I know for a fact that it fouls up my z's injectors so I wouldn't be suprised if it does other things too, just my complaint.
Sorry the whole point of the post was to show you guys TT, kinda interesting to know who builds the motors, it would be awesome if someone showed me the guy who built my Z motor.

Someone got the luck of the draw on a fantastic job. I'm in the Richmond area. I don't post much but, read alot.
I pass thru that area all the time and had no idea 7's, 8's and other nice rides were meeting there! I close on a house off Forest Ave near Three Chopt at the end of the month. I should try to make it out.

For some reason Rotaries have always been hand assembled.

The Ford Shelby Cobra, Cadillac CTS-V, and Corvette LS-7/LS-9 engines are all hand built righ down the street from my house. The reason rotaries are hand-built is because, even with the pre-cut side seals, there are parts that require human observation to get right, like the corner seals. The rotary engine is one that requires a "feel" to get right and watch out for machining errors.

^ for sure. I believe the M engines were hand assembled too. As I said regular engines are "robotically" put together. But higher-end cars with exotic engines still require human intervention.

Hand assembling an engine just reminds me of Full Metal Jacket. "You're gonna be nice and clean now Charlene"
You should ask that expert about all things they are debating here, like synthetic and such.

I've been surprised that Mazda didn't take the opportunity to have a build plate with the main builder's signature on the block like Aston Martin does, just to emphasize the handcrafted nature of the engine. I agree, Sleepy-z; I'd love to meet the guy who made my engine. Ask him if he remembers doing the engine for chassis 127646.
