I am so sorry, but I must go back (off-topic I mean)...: 19? Reminds me also: Nineteen! Na-na-na-na-nain-tiiiiiiin. (Paul Hartcastle that was). Topgun led so many people their way to the military (as me as well), hey man, COLD WAR was still hot then....
Some years later I spend one night on Miramar Naval Air Station, watta feeling! Took some (secret) shots, nearly MP got me for that At 11 p.m. (or 23hundred as I would rather call it) one roaring Tomcat into the air. RotorMotor, I love San Diego, but the timing was not so good then: When the police changed their motto from "Protect and serve" to "We treat you like King (Rodney)". Saw burning L.A. when sitting in the hotel room in -- San Diego.
And for the wrong quote: As I said, I saw the movie only in German (I have the DVD now and saw it once in -- French, THAT was cool )
O.k., now a little back to the topic:
The seats or cool and I don't think it's a danger. Remember my of MX-3 seats anyhow.
What against the lacking spare tire? If I really have trouble I have my motor club assisting me or so... Good to save weight and space!
Folding seats would be good: I liked them in my MX-3's. But as you have only conventional trunk they would be only of little use, so I think they took more concern of the design of te seats than of a folding mechanism.... You could pack something on your roof into some skibox if you really need this?!
Sadly, I could not yet sit in one. We went to Leipzig to AMI Automobil Messe Internatinal only to see the RX-8 but it was only "table dancing" (and the other one in the hotel lobby). I think Germany is not a good market at the moment and even me doesn't order one in advance before I test drive one (Anyhow "only" interested in the standard 192HP version and still concerned about fuel consumption!
Cheers, Norberto (Maverikk)

You've lost that lovin feelin'
C'mon dude, that was an easy one....
Unfortunately Miramar is no longer NAS Miramar. It's operated by the Marines now and Top Gun has moved to Colorado.... I used to live a stones throw from Miramar when I was a kid (only about 15 minutes away now), but man, I still have AWESOME memories of sitting on the roof of our old house watching the air shows. The Blue Angels would literally pass 200 feet over head right over the house. Talk about making you want to live the movie....

Yesssss, Smoker, was in Miramar then (1992). Now the Navy boys "lost that feeling...." I'm afraid. And what I did not mention: The pic was taken by myself, 'course. :D
RotorMotor, I can only imagine that.... dreeeemin' of that... Some time ago I did the next thing to flying -- riding a bike (BMW K1100). Goes like a turbine...... Only flying is nicer.

Answers from Mazda
Here is a response I got from Mazda from emailing them at rx8orders@mazdausa.com.
I'm sure everyone knew these answers, so now do I! The only "bummer" in that bunch for me is the auto climate control. I have that now in the Jetta and it's great.
A spare tire is not standard. It will be an option to purchase from
the dealership. In it's place is a IMS Emergency Flat Tire Repair Kit
which will allow you repair a flat. Additionally, you will have
Roadside Assistance for the entire term of your warranty, which is 4
years or 50,000 miles whichever comes first.
Automatic climate control is not available on the RX-8. The 6-disc CD
changer is a stand alone option is not part of any packages. The rear
seat has a pass-through. The moon roof both tilts and slides open.
Lastly, the xenon headlamps are for the low beam lamp, not the high
beams.

Was checking out the back seats at revitup and i think 2 bolts hold each rear seat back in. I plan on removing those and letting the backs "rest" in place.
My 7'-2" surfboard will fit perfectly with the front seat forward!
