Ticket For Not Having Front Plates

Hey Guys,
Since I got my 8 in '06, I haven't driven with my front tags, just because I like the grill. I've been pulled over a few times and only once has a cop asked about my front tags (without any issues). Today, my girlfriend and I were on our way home from the store. I got pulled over by a rookie cop who gave me a $60 ticket for not having my front plates up. I placed it on when I got home. Have any of you guys had this issue?

What state you in? Some enforce it more than others. I haven't had problem in TX or CO though in '96 I was warned by a State cop for not having one on my 7. Have never had one since then on any of my cars that I can think of.

I live in Maryland, Montgomery County. Like I said, I've been pulled over several times and one time an officer asked about it without any issue. Today, I think this was rookie cop looking for his first ticket.

I got a "Fix it" ticket with my RX-7 here. I keep it in the window now, as I'm too lazy to get the plate adapter thingy hooked up.

In NJ you have to have a front tag. I got pulled over when i first got my FD, well after like 2 months.

The cop said he could have given me a ticket for no front tag, the loud exhaust and "god knows what else".

Thank god i pulled over and he just went beside me blocking traffic so i guess he had no intention of writing a ticket.

After that day, i always had a front plate.

After today, I'll always have my front plate too, lol. It's just crazy that no other cop has ever made an issue of this.

Chance are, you're breaking the law and should look up your state vehicle code. Otherwise you wouldn't have get the ticket.

I live in New Jersey. the township I live in doesn't care about my no front license or my tint. But the next town over where I attend college pulled me over twice for it. I hate the car with the front tag off, so I don't want to put it back on. They haven't said anything about the tint.

I dont have my plates up front either. Im in Cali and it ruins the look of the front grill. Also Ive had my someone try to steal my plates one time, it was just dangling by a screw and a partly broken plastic frame. So i just stuck mine in the front window drilling the holes in the plate a bit bigger and fitting two plastic suction things front and center of the window and have had no issue at all. and the CHP, Sheriff, and SacPD stare down my car on a daily basis.

I see many sports and luxury cars around here without plates. Here's the problem though:

Around here every now and then they will do a DUI checkpoint. If you don't have the front plate on and hit the checkpoint you WILL get a ticket for it. They quoted one woman in the U-T who had a Jaguar and got written up and she was complaining because it would make her car look bad. Needless to say the comments section ripped her a new one.

I got one better. I got a $40 ticket for not having a bell on my bicycle. What kind of f*cked up law enforcement is that?

Did you pay it? I guess I'm wondering what the identification mechanism is for that because I'm assuming you weren't carrying ID, and I would definitely not give a real name and address for chicken bleep like that.

I'm glad i live in vegas and don't have to put on a front plate. When they reviewed the RX-8 in best motoring on the track, the front plate caused it to overheat quicker. It ran fine without it.

I have a old Firebird that has a plastic embossed firebird logo where the front plate is supposed to go. I thought it looked nice and didn't remove it until I got a ticket once in West LA for not having a front plate.
I now have a plate on my 8 since I don't want to go through that again. I think the car looks MUCH nicer without it but it's not worth $40 to me.

I live in San Diego and haven't had any problems so far without a front plate. But if I do get a ticket for it I only have to pay a $10 fee and put it back on..

no front plate law in PA either, but we've got plenty of other stupid ones to make up for it.

Up here they give ya a $150 ticket for no front plate, I found that out the hard way and had to hunt down a way to put a plate on my 83 RX-7 which sucked. The only bracket I could find is in such poor shape I don't think it'll last so I've been thinking about finding a way to make one that can move to allow more air flow at speed.

I'm waiting to see what the RI fine is for no front plate. I pass state/city cops all the time, ride behind them, etc... and most I have gotten is a few leaning glances from cops at the work zones.

Perhaps missing a white plate on a white car just doesn't stand out that much. Easier to not see that it isn't there at first glance.

Everywhere else I drive in the country, I have the reassurance that the cop probably doesn't know that RI has a front plate law, and couldn't do much about it anyway.

I did get a repair ticket in my P5, 3 days after I got the hard tags in Montgomery County MD. Empty bracket gave it away too easy I think. The bracket was odd anyway, the existing screw holes were too far apart? Officer accepted that explanation, after a demonstration and a glance at the registration date.
