i wouldn't. i'd stick to the black or variation of. i wouldn't go with the browns and certainly wouldn't choose another color. personally i think colored tints (sans brown) look cheap and belong on a civic.

I dont know about this website, I know they have New Yorks laws all wrong. Its legal to tint here, and that site says we have strict laws that allow no tint.

If you get tint, get it at a reputable shop (not dealer). If you drive a great deal at night keep in mind visibility will be reduced. Finally, never drive your new 8 in a lava flow.

Well I was reading the 2 pages of this thread and not one person told the OP to search (I couldn't believe it!!) So someone had to do it.

Search is good but not enough info for me.

I like to hear everyone's opinion and I especially like to hear about things like...getting ceramic ...

"Make sure they use ceramic in the back and not metal as your antenna is in the rear window and you don't want metal tint back"

i have the same question about that ... i think that 8's tinted are tight but the problem that i am scared are that i am magnet of cops pulling me over so i question tinting my windows cause i dont want the cops another reason to pull me over

then get the legal tint for your state. i believe most have a reasonable tint for sides (either 20% or 35%) and usually no limits for the back. this is by no means a blanket statement that you should use as you should research your state but stay within the guidelines if you're worried about being pulled over.

I don't agree with this. I have 100% metallic tint all around (pretty pricey package for $450, comes with a lifetime warranty w/ free replacement), with 20% in the rears and 35% on the sides. My antenna works just as fine as it did without tint. For me this configuration is ideal because I can still see fine at night, it doesn't seem to bother cops (I've been pulled over twice for speeding but they did not mention anything about tint) and it still looks great.

I don't agree either, if the antenna is in the glass and the tint is on the inside, it is not blocking the antenna from outside access, the antenna is wired to the radio so it doesn't matter what happens inside the car. If your tint is installed outside your tinter is an idiot

OP - anything that can be done elsewhere, should be. The only time you should take your 8 back to the dealer is when there is some work to be done that will be covered by warranty. Anything done at the dealership is going to cost you more, and the quality may or may not be better than a "specialty" shop. (chances are the quality will be better at the specialty shop.)

What kind of stupid law is that? and I think California is the most pathetic state, cuz all out of state cars when they enter CA they are required to follow CA's tinted law.
It is pretty f8cked up. Especially considering that in RI no tint is legal. No tint on any window. Yet you can walk onto any dealer lot and buy a vehicle w/tint on the back windows, if not all of them.

Funny, I thought I got mine done b/c it looks sexy esp. on the BB, provides shade and protection to my interior and cut out the glaring headlights behind me at night. Since I'm not 17, and Tony Soprano is a fictional character, I guess that makes me a self-important Donald Trump wanna-be. I learn something new everyday.

Actually, I have the Shinka, too. But I figure most have the dark interior.

Outside of body mods, tinting is the biggest change you can make to the look of your 8. Without tint your eyes gets drawn into the windows, with tint your eye follows the line of the car.

You don't need very dark tint to get the effect (unless you want dark tint, then more power to ya)

When you settle on a place for your tint, ask to see examples on cars. Most good tint shops will have tint on three or four cars in their parking lot (customers and employees). You'll get a better idea of how dark their tint will look then just staring at a 10 x 10 piece of film. Look at the cars they are working on. Are they high end or just beat up ricers? The better the car, the better the tint.

Congrats on your new 8!

I can't see how tinted windows wouldn't negatively affect visibility, particularly as it gets dark. For me, anything that makes it harder to see out the car—even a tiny bit—makes driving a little less safe. It's the equivalent of increasing your reaction time. And I don't have a problem with glaring headlights—my 8 has the Auto Dimming Mirror, which does a great job. But hey, if you like tinted windows, good for you.

^lol. Yeah, the driving experience is made much more exciting if you remove one of the senses from the equation. hearing, sight, some people drive "no hands" style . . .

It def. affects night vision behind you, but really only while backing up. Otherwise, the vision on the road is fine thanks to headlights +/- road lighting. Personally, lights are always too bright for my eyes. I need sunglasses even when it's not that bright, and headlights at night have always sucked. So the choice was easy.

Def. agree w/laythor about the line of the car. That was a better explanation of my "it makes the 8 more sexy"

i'm actually just researching this myself and haven't taken the plunge yet so take what i say with a grain of salt - it could just be the good old dog and pony show that the auto tint places are giving me. however, it is supposed to reduce glare both day and night so i would hope that it would be a good thing even at night.

my big thing, though, is that i don't like the auto-dimming feature and turn it off when i get in because i like to have my senses untouched. so i too worry that it could be that they're feeding me what i need to hear but i may not enjoy it once i have the tint on. i have never gone with aftermarket tint before because i had seen so many bad tints in past lives but ran into this guy with a lexus at the wheel shop and his looked great. he highly recommended this shop and i checked out his shop and have been tossing it back and forth since.

About the Price...Everything in Canada is double the States. Maybe I will come to Florida and do it there.

I need a medium tint not to dark because I can't see too well at night...And I don't want to back up into a pole.

Come on down! Sunny and warm and beach is great!
Still think $500.00 at dealer is way expensive, see person in Calgary got $250.00
Yes, 15% in the rear is dark, but it's not really all that bad. Think I have a pic around here somewhere of before and after, I'll try to post it here tomorrow or send it to you via PM so you can get a better look.

Another point of concern is that I have heard of horror stories where the tint shop got the door panels and interior dirty during the tint install process, so setting expectations with the person thats actually going to do the tinting helps a bit.
Good point............I told them that if the f'd up the interior, then I would give them my cleaning bill..........and I'm expensive!
