Exclamation Tire Pressure warning light

My tire pressure warning light came on when I started my car to come home from work this afternoon. I got out and looked at the tires; I didn't see one noticeably low, so I drove home.

On my way home the warning light went out. I let the car sit until after dinner to let the tires cool, then I checked them all. Both rear and the passenger front were right at 32 psi where they should be. But the driver front was 27 psi.

I got the pump out of the trunk and pumped it back up to 220 kpasc (the gauge on the pump doesn't read in psi). I'll check it again in the morning before I go to work -- I hope I haven't "sprung a leak"!

Question Temp. Change?

If you live in a place where the temp. is now changing to be colder .. that is why your light went off ... you had 32 in your tires and it got colder .... air condensed and pressure dropped ... likewise in summer after it starts to get warmer you might have to let some air out......to maintain desired tire pressure if you keep it at 32psi

try 35-40 psi and you should not have a problem with the outside temps.

51psi is the MAX

Is the pressure sensor a part of the valves, wheels, what? I've never owner a car that had it and I'm curious. Can it still be used once you add aftermarket wheels? I hope it's just a fluke and not anything wrong JT.

my understanding is that the sensor is in the wheels.

There is another type of system that uses a transmitter in the valve or cap

I have been told that just changing to a diffrent brand of tire can effect the readings. I would think aftermarket wheels would also.

Very good Ike, a post which was useful. You can learn! I am so proud.

I thought of that (and yes, it is getting a little cooler here), but when I checked the pressure, 3 of 4 tires were right at 32. The 4th was at 27. I pumped it up to 32 last night. When I checked it again this morning, it was still 32 -- so either I have an incredibly slow leak or that tire was just low from the beginning (and the cooler weather reduced the pressure enough to set off the pressure monitor).

Ike,
The pressure sensor is part of the metal valve stem assembly and yes there are concerns that it will not fit on aftermarket wheels.

The dash light also activates when there is to much air pressure. My dealer never adjusted the pressure in the pre delivery service and on the test drive the light came on. When we got back to the dealership I took my air gauge and saw the 45-50 psi readings and adjusted the pressure. The instrument light has not come on since.

I had my tire sensor light come on as well one evening recently. I check of the tires (cold) showed 3 at least 31 lbs psi with one at 30.5 lbs psi. I filled the tires to 33 lbs psi. No more light.

uh, its still hot here and today when I got in at work and started up my light came on. I found 24.5 PSI in the right rear. It did the job and sent the signal.

update

Had the tire fixed today. There was a big nail in it.

ALso, later on today I was driving on errands about anhour and a half after the repair. Went into a store for about 45 minutes and came out just as it started to rain. The temp dropped from about 92 to 75 (ambient on dash) and on my way home there was a beeeeeep and the tire light came on. Three of the 4 tires had 24.5 psi and the one fixed was at 34. Weather?

If you keep getting the problem have them check the valve stem, mine had to be replaced as faulty.
