tire warranty rant/ advice
I need some advice. When I bought my 06 rx8 I took out the tire loyalty warranty....as well as the extended waranty, gap insurance the whole works.......for a reason......The requirements as were described to me to get this warranty, were this:
All the service was to be performed when stated in the manual by the Mazda dealership that I bought the car from and I had to get 25K miles on the tires, and they had to reach a certain tread depth. I've had everything done as I was told it was due at the aforementioned dealership, and I have 29K+ miles on my car, and my tires are at or below the required safe tread depth. Now they are coming back and saying that I didn't have the tires rotated at the proper mileage limits and they won't honor the warranty.
What makes me mad are two things. 1. They are the service writers, they know when each thing is due and at what mileage and My tires have been rotated 4 times..the last was at 28K miles. The other thing is basically principal. I took out all the extra coverage on my car due to the fact that my husband is overseas 11 months out of the year and I didn't need to be putting out $200 a freakin' tire if something happened to one of them like I did on my "stang. It's called Peace of mind....
What would you do? I intend on pursuing this, all the way to the damn GM if I have to, but I want to know what your honest opinion of me being successful. I mean they are freaking splitting hairs here....and its their JOB to let me know about each time something is due, and everything else has been mentioned, including a stupid cabin air filter.......boy howdy they made sure they got that $25.00...

I don't but they do. they said the first one was done at 9800 miles and the second one done at 18K ....I know that they were rotated at every 3-3500 miles (about every other oil change) , and I've had at 8 oil changes done. Do you think they would go in and either delete the service records or change the mileage?

ugg... why dont you have receipts for the work done?
i bet if you look at the tire deal it mentions that you have to maintain records for proof- just like any service warrenty.
you need to have them give you printout s of the service record they have for you

They have proof of all the service that I've done, and they say I didnt have the tires rotated every 7500 miles, but I know that I have had it done 4 times within 28K miles. It's the fact that they are splitting hairs.......and they failed to mention this specific thing to me when they were explaining the warranty. I'd like to get my tires as I thought I would, however probably what I'll do if they absolutely refuse is to just simply take my car to another dealer. I am more worried about my peace of mind in a really bad situation than anything else.

i'm confused.
Bought the car new, Tires are covered for 25k, and you have 29k miles.? Rotation being moot, it's passed the 25k.
If you bought it with miles already on the car. You should ask for the service record printout for your records.
If that warranty is a service from Mazda Corp, i'd make 'that phone call' once you get the service records in hand.
If that's an extended tire coverage provided by that dealer, escalation to MNAO would be moot, as they didn't initiate the service. If fine print states 'within' 7,500k miles, they'll play that game all day. If fine print says 'around', that implies leeway instead of a limit of 7,500. You shouldn't have any trouble blowing past the Service Manager to the GM since they want to play 'semantics'.
Sad to say, but because your a girl... Some places still take that sucker approach thinking your a push-over.
Checking a tire retailer in your area.

Worse case scenario, 2 tires to replace the 'more worn' <-- very unlikely since you've done the rotation. and have the new ones put on the rear.

Welcome to the world of warranties.
Short Version: Warranties are a gamble rigged in the seller's/warranty company's favor. You're wasting your money most of the time.
The salesperson's job (motivation) is to sell you the extras like warranties. Commission on these is sky-high, and any place that sells warranties like car dealerships and retail stores rate their employees on their ability to sell said warranty. Often your continued employment and/or advancement is tied to the percentage of warranties sold versus total sales.
The service department's job is to keep the number of warranty replacements below a certain percentage.
It's simple math - the dealership looks at the monies generated by the sales of warranties and therefore knows if they honor a given percentage of them the business will lose money.
Quick story from my personal experience with warranties: A customer at my retail chain brings in a TV for service; it's over a year old and therefore out of manufacturer warranty. However, it's still covered by an extended warranty the customer payed for at time of purchase. Good consumer!
To my knowledge, months later, the (3rd party) extended warranty company is still fighting with the original manufacturer over who should cover the replacement of the TV, which has had 2-3 identical failures during the course of its lifetime. As such, warranty company wants original manufacturer to cover replacement under lemon law. Last I checked on this particular issue, neither company looked as if it was going to budge.

What a load of crap. I hope you get it worked out in your favor RD. It certainly sounds like they are just trying to jerk you around.
Like someone else mentioned, there are decent tire options in the $100 per range if you do have to buy them yourself. I had researched some cheaper options at the end of the summer and found a pretty cheap tire with good reviews - including positive comments on them from a few 7 & 8 owners here. General Exclaim UHP - cheapest I've found them so far is at Mavis Tire (http://www.mavistire.com/ProductCart...el=EXCLAIM+UHP) - at less than $90 each!

This sounds like "Tires for Life" Millenium Protection Group holds the policy? If so, call the store you are dealing with, get Trey's number at Millenium and talk with him directly abotu this. I subcontracted for this company and dealt with Trey on many occasions. I got them to move when poeple had done only 2 of the 4 rotations. I can't imagine that much would have changed in the year since I have dealt with the company. They didn't split hairs back then, and there would be NO reason for the DEALER to be the one splitting hairs, as they'd get paid by millenium for the work...

hehehe......thanks Guys! Revittupp, what a coup that will be to have that bit of info on hand if things don't go my way. I believe that our service writer mentioned a Doug as a representative coming to see them. I'll double check the company and allow them to work things out first before I move forward with asking for Trey's number. I'm also within 400 miles of my 30K miles mark, so thats another 600.00 out of pocket to them, and since I'm a local 8 club founding member, and they know me well, they are quite aware of this. I have to get that service done to continue to qualify as well. I also requested OEM Dunlop SS Sport 8090's which were the OEM tires that came on my car. When I bought it they were 375.00 a piece, ( hence taking out the tire warranty) and have now dropped down to 260.00 through Tire Track, which is where they get their tires from. I'm willing to pay the 10.00 difference in each tire beyond my allowance! I'm wondering if that is another reason they are jerking me around. If I went with a cheaper tire, I may not be having this problem.
Bought the car new, Tires are covered for 25k, and you have 29k miles.? Rotation being moot, it's passed the 25k.
Bought off the lot brand new, Requirements: to get minimum 25K miles on the OEM tires, all service done ON time and in their dealership, and a tread measure drop to 3/32 per tire, even if it was over 25K miles to do it.) . What was not never made mention of was that the tire rotation was due each 7500 miles. Each time I went to have something done I asked what was due next. NEVER did they say anything about having my tires rotated at a specific mileage.. I just had it done every other oil change. I went with what they told me was due. My biggest problem is NOT really the tires...Its the fact that they are trying to split hairs here...and it makes me wonder what other essential service my car may not have had performed, because they didn't say anything. There responsibility as well as mine in my eyes. We'll see what happens.....I'm not a patient person by nature, but this one I will ride out because I have too, even its on the principal.

If it's anything like manufacturer warranty work, they're not paid much. Why do you think so many dealerships try to wiggle out of billing service to warranty?
