I hate inconsiderate people. I saw someone sitting the front end of my car at the grocery store--and you all know how thin the metal is! I don't think you overreacted. I hope when she's telling the story to other people they remind her how stupid it is to put your s#!t on other people's cars.

A few of the replies here are amusing, but in all seriousness some of you guys need to get a grip; I love my RX8, but it's just a car. She was a inconsiderate and oblivious, but that doesn't justify dumping her groceries on the ground... anyone who doesn't understand that has no honor. Had it been a 6'7" 270 pound guy who put his groceries on your car, would you have reacted that way?

Hmm....now that I think about.....after seeing her place the groceries on the trunk lid, I would have continued walking up to the car, grabbed the groceries off the trunk lid, popped the trunk, placed them casually inside, and closed the trunk. Then, without saying a word, I would have walked over to her driver door, whipped it out, and relieve myself on her door handle! Then, just get in my car, and go! :D No real damage done to either car, or the groceries...but I think she may have gotten the point!

No, in fact, I'd be willing to bet the only reason he DID do it is because he could get away with it because he WASN'T worried about her reaction afterwards. She may not have realized how inconsiderate she as being. And yes, I would have TALKED to her, not acted like a complete *** just because I could. You guys all keep says "I would have done so and so" but WHY? Do you get something out of being hateful to other people? What about giving someone the benefit of the doubt? There is an awful lot of bravado on these boards. It's much easier to say "I'd do THIS and KICK HER ***" when in reality, you're not that mean and you really wouldn't.

In the end, she made a stupid mistake. It wasn't like she was kicking the car, slamming her door into yours, or anything like that. All it really deserved was a quick "hey, do you mind?" and a removal of the groceries.

As Aratinga said.. yeah most people do see a car as merely an appliance..... a 5 (and sometimes 6) figure appliance mind you.

However, I really see that as no excuse... car enthusiast or not.. a grown adult should have more sense than what that woman displayed. Fact of the matter is, someone purchased this "good", this "good" does not belong to you... so dont touch it!

The funny thing is shes probably thinking "What a *****! its just a car"but I'm pretty sure she'd go mental if you were to shuffle into her living room with your shoes on and put your feet up on her $500 coffee table from the Bombay Company.. sheesh.

I find it hilarious how people say "its just a car" yet they have to get into 5 year debt over it as it can get to be over 50% of your yearly income...uh.. yeah "just a car" LOL

I would have to say I have had my own forms of road rage, and some tiems there are fun and I laugh about it afterwards, but that was kind of mean. Then again I may have done the same thing in your situation. I probally would have walked up and asked her "what the F**K she thaught she was doing?" told her taken her groceries and carried them somehere else and dumped them there but I wouldn't thrown them for fear of damaging something. But I would have laughed my *** off if I had seen you do that.

Explaining NICELY to people gets points across much better than acting like an *******. I don't listen to people who act like that- why would someone so dumb they put their groceries on people's cars listen? I don't suppose that you like being yelled at at work, either, even if what you did was incorrect- all it does is create hostility and resentment, NOT correct a problem. All this woman learned was that guy was a jerk. There's a reason you don't just walk up and scream at anyone you think is doing something wrong. It doesn't work.

Yeah, sure, you can kick a dog that's peeing on your yard, but there's a good chance next time he's going to bite you back. And he sure didn't learn anything.

parking lots, parking lots, parking lots. if you park in lots you will get scratchs, dents, dings and any thing else you can think of. you have to expected it, prepare for it and move on. you can fight women and children all you want. they do not care about you or you car. if the mother has not brushed johnny's teeth in months or brushed suzie's hair in weeks why should she car about your car. you have to park next to 8's, Z's , muscle cars or empty spaces, not suburbans and impalas. so here is what you do.... pickup the bags, say how can i help you. put the bags in her car and say have a nice day. smile at her and walk away. you can never never never win against someone like her because she just doesn't care. forget about it and move on. you blood pressure will thank you. joe

I'm a little surprised at the responses. It may feel 'cool' or 'bad-***' or 'grown-up' to brag about how you woulda peed on her car, hit her, yelled and smashed things...but to actually do something like that is childish. Yeah - I anticipate the replies I'll see to my comments, but I'm right; whether the inner child in some of you wants to believe it or not, throwing a tantrum over something so trivial is acting out like a spoiled brat.

In that situation, I do one of two things.

1) Grab her bags, and help her load her groceries into her truck.
2) Get in quick, and drive off with her bag still on my trunk-lid.

Being NICE to people; showing compassion is the best course of action in mosts cases.

Having the "RIGHT" to do something (get mad, yell, etc) doesn't mean it's the 'right thing to do'.

I agree that showing compassion and being diplomatic is always the best approach - not because it "works," but because you'll feel better about yourself afterwards. It's not so much a concern about HER (correcting her behaviour, getting revenge, teaching her a lesson) as it is YOU: finding an appropriate reaction that reflects who you want to be.

I agree that physically assaulting her, while funny in the abstract and when told with humor (which I believe are the majority of these posts) would have been the wrong thing to do. But I truly believe that throwing/dropping her stuff on the ground would be OK. I do like the panic button suggestion.

Myself, I'd probably do that instead of speaking one word to her for fear of me losing my temper and doing something I'd actually regret. Realistically, none of us should judge either way, as we were not actually in that situation, and there's no teling how we would react.

My point stands:

If I were do 'act-out' I could simply drive away, or start driving away with her bag still on my trunk.

OR

I would have helped her load her stuff.
