Took her in for service for the first time - Results and Questions:
Hey guys
I've got a 2004 RX-8, I've had her for about a year now. I took her in for her first service call ever, because I usually dont trust dealerships - Past service experiences have been hell with other cars.
The biggest thing I wanted fixed, was the rattling in the steering wheel. I recall there being a TSB on that, so I said "Rattling in steering wheel, can you please perform the appropriate TSB?" - and their response was "Could not duplicate" - that pisses me off. Is there a more direct way I can have them fix this? That steering wheel rattle annoys me to hell. Soon as I drove off the lot it was right there.
I also said that I had been having starting issues, and a bad flooding experience. I asked them to re-flash her to the newest software (She's an 04 thats never been in for service... I guarantee she's got an OLD flash) - and their response on the service tag was "Could Not Duplicate".
Nowhere on the service recipt does it say they ever re-flashed her. How would I know if they actually did flash her? Would it be on the tag? Would I have any indication, like my trip odometer resetting or something?
They ordered new tail lights for the condensation in them, and new brake pads per a brake TSB that I asked about - and I have to reschedule to get them actually taken care of.
Anyhow, First Team Mazda here in Greenbrier, Chesapeake, Virginia has me pretty disappointed at this experience. I'm going to complain, and when I take her in again try to get those two things taken care of. Any tips?

You should have received a recall letter if yours was an 2004 which includes the flash. Bring that in.
And for the things that they couldn't duplicate. As for a tech to take a ride with you and that should show them. Good luck!

Well, you can go back again and complain and get the same results or you can try a different dealer. check the good guy/bad guy list for your area.
As far as flash is concerned, there has been 1 TSB (msp04) that is mandatory and includes reflash and then the later recall for exhaust heat which also includes a mandatory reflash.
Maybe just call MNAO and complain and ask them to run interference for you and send you to the dealer that they tell you to go to. Better to have the lame excuse for a dealer that you went to on report anyway.
