Does 6speed AT also have 125 mph limiter?
BTW, why so much hating on the AT's? I wonder if the MT owners that are crapping on the the AT's have even driven the 6 spd AT. I did test drive both MT and AT 8 before I made the commitment to buy the AT. There wasn't a lot of difference to me, so I chose the practicality of the AT, especially that I live in L.A.
Oh... one other factor that I chose an AT was because I used to hate paying for the clutch job. In order to have some fun with the MT's, it is natural for the clutch to wear out faster. All you MT owners know how much it costs to have it replaced, right?

The clutch on our 8's are pretty well built... You can abuse it regularly. In fact, it's designed to be abused regularly so if you are able to wear out the clutch quickly then you probably have very poor driving skills. BTW, our stock clutches are actually Exedy Stage 1 clutches.

I recall driving one of the Grand Am Koni Challenge Roar RX8 cars at Daytona this year and could hit 150 mph approaching start/finish. Keep in mind that is a 5.12 rear end.

My first new car was an 5 spd. 89 Acura Integra LS Special Edition. I liked that car a lot. It was stylish and smooth. I loved to downshift and take hard corners, even though it had some heavy torque steer. My next new car was the second generation MR2. That was a bitchen car. Agile, reliable and was a looker. Though I was lucky with the MR2, I wasn't so lucky with the Integra's clutch. I had to get it replaced three times before I hit 100K due to my driving style. That's what I meant by didn't like paying for the clutch job. The MR2 on the other hand never had a problem until well beyond 100K. It was just too small of a car and driving 2 hours stuck in traffic on the infamous 405, just killed all my enjoyment driving the MT's. My next new car was 300Z AT. Haven't looked back since, though I really considered hard about getting the MT 8. I would have chosen an MT if it was my weekend car, but it was going to be my commuter, so I chose the AT.
I think whether it's an AT or MT, an 8 owner should know by now that any 8 is fun to drive regardless.

Do you mean the actual letting-the-car-do-it-for-you automatic or the paddle shifting? Can't remember if it was always this way.. But mazda did a reflash last week and just went 7700 rpm before shifting in my 4 port auto in 2nd. I may be totally wrong and confused.. will have to test more later.
Noticed quite a power increase though.. Once again, haven't had the chance to really test it.
Okay. Well seems that it wants to stop increasing revs around 8k. Not sure if this was how it used to be or not. So I suppose it is still limited but perhaps slightly increased?

I just want to know from those of you that went over 140mph. Where were you able to do that?
Any tracks/speedways near L.A. where I can test the top speed of my car safely?

I went on the highway on the week-end, and scored only 110-115 MPH. There were some reasons for this. First of all, the quality of the road didn't quite permit it (I live in Romania). Second, I think the RPM's were around 6500-7000 at that speed, and I felt that the car couldn't do more. And third, I was scared not to blow the engine or something. I bought the car 6 months ago, a 2004-231HP-6MT with a mileage of 40K. The car didn't seem very well mantained and used, but that's another issue.
So I'm asking you if there is possible due to engine/transmission wear that I couldn't reach a higher speed ? Also I felt a weird vibration in the engine at that RPM and I didn't want to push my luck.
What is your suggestion ?
PS: I have 225/40/18 tires instead of the stock 225/45/18, but I don't think it does a big difference.
